AppArmor is easier to configure though not as configurable as SELinux for as many cases. I would also strongly suggest you never disable SELinux (or AppArmor if that is what you are using) to ease installation and implementation. It is not worth the risk. Just learn to use your Gnu/Linux Hardening system to its fullest extent. Do not disable it.

One thing that may help with your impostor syndrome would be to be sure you setup GitHub to allow you to sign your commits. You have to create a gpg key and then furnish the public key to them. The instructions are online. In this way you can prove your code is yours.
