The largest camera ever built for astrophysics (3200-megapixels, >3000 kg) was installed this week at the Rubin Observatory at Cerro Pachón in Chile.

The Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) camera, the final major component of the Rubin Observatory's Simonyi Survey Telescope, was transported to the summit in May 2024.

After a few more months of testing, first light is expected around 4 Jul 2025.

The notion that you get better life long immunity to diseases by catching them when young instead of via vaccination is scary…why do the likes of RFK Jr think there was a drive for vaccinations in the first place?

I have hearing loss due to my mum catching Rubella from a kid when she was pregnant with me…I later was vaccinated, but when it came to checking my immunity before I had IVF, I was suprised to hear I had none. GP said this is not unusual.

This is mindblowing disruption. This new US executive order orders an immediate review of all *existing* federal grants & contracts & also freezes all federal credit cards. The federal gov funds a huge amount of science & it will all stop while this plays out.

The Wild Hunt Escarpment at Berchtesgaden: Near Berchtesgaden there is a rock formation called the “Gjoadwand” (“Wild Hunt Escarpment”). There is a spring within this rock which only flows intermittently. When it stops flowing, people can restart it by shouting the following phrase into the rock: “Gjoad! Gjoad! Lass den Schuss los!” (“Wild Hunt! Wild Hunt! Release your shot!”, i.e. let the water flow. Some claim that the correct phrase is: “Jaik! Jaik! Lass den Schuss los!” The local people also believe that all of Berchtesgaden would be flooded if the Iaik were ever to break free. For this reason, prayers are held at the collegiate church in order to prevent this. As a citizen of the United States, after hearing more and more stories like this I have to say it's probably best if people don't travel here. ICE has been bad from day one (created-post 9/11) but it's like horror stories from the Soviet Union I remember hearing as a kid now. It doesn't matter if you are coming from countries MAGA considers "good" like this German lady or "bad" ones. It doesn't matter if you have your documents in order and your nose clean.
