“WH has withdrawn the nomination of former Rep. Dave Weldon, R-Fla., whom #Trump had chosen to serve as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a senior administration official said.

The development came just hours before Weldon was set to testify at his Senate confirmation hearing for the role.”

nbcnews.com/politics/trump-adm…

in reply to Laffy

Per PBS...

A person familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, said the White House pulled the nomination because it became clear Weldon did not have the votes for confirmation.

Weldon was considered to be closely aligned with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the U.S. health secretary who for years has been one of the nation’s leading anti-vaccine activists.

As I was saying in my 🧵yesterday (mstdn.social/@GottaLaff/114151…):

“Reports suggest that Senate Dems may not filibuster GOP CR. Instead, they may allow the resolution to make it to Senate floor in exchange for ability of Dems to offer an amendment to GOP CR. The Dem amend would fail. And bc Dems will have allowed GOP CR to make it to the Senate floor without a filibuster fight, the resolution could then pass on a simple majority vote—a threshold Republicans can easily exceed” roberthubbell.substack.com/p/t…

2/ Okay, this is worrisome. From one of my pals in the know:

"If they vote for cloture, GOP could ultimately turn down Dem proposals and pass the dirty CR with only 51 votes, thus surrendering the Dems' leverage here."

in reply to Laffy

I seem to recall the Republicans filibustering almost everything when the Democrats held the majority of the Senate.
in reply to Laffy

All this is going to do is further erode faith in the Dems. A shutdown would suck, but it would be Trump’s shutdown. The GOP could point fingers all they want and it would fail to change the narrative among informed voters.

At what point does Schumer just get in front of the press and admit “I’m close to retiring. I need to protect my interests first even if that means screwing all of you.”

in reply to 404 Media

during and after WWII the USA gained a huge tech advantage by welcoming European scientists and engineers. Now Trump is offloading all US science and tech over to Europe and China. That should work out well for Europe, but probably not so good for the USA.

Oof, such a dozy, lazy-feeling day. All I want to do is watch movies and play an RPG

Coming up on the Ides of March and St. Patrick's Day in Chicago. ☘️ 🗡️ . Made a quick store run for faux Irish food, deli stuff and a slice of pie. For the next 5 days everyone around here will be pretend Irish on tariffed booze while starting knife fights in public places. Can't wait. 🙄

You know what would be a good "bit" is making a detailed YouTube explainer video about an entirely fake science experiment, that never occurred, mimic a real YouTube science video as much as possible, play the hoax totally straight. But if the reader (1) notices the video is fake and (2) pays close attention, they realize the video is just describing the plot of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH
in reply to mcc

lol. I think you should count yourself lucky. The video came off as ai slop presented by a human.

I've updated the ottopot website and build instructions with the PCB version and the new case.
I'm considering this the v1 release 🙌

The ottopot is a MIDI controller with 8 endless potentiometers sending 14bit CCs.

Special thanks to @Nervengift for the PCB contribution.

Why did I even try, this has been happening for the past few years on all my Windows 10 and 11 installs
in reply to Reid

this install is ass. session terminated. or something
in reply to SpudHead

@jorgaborg “this install” except this has been happening constantly with the Windows Terminal for years in several windows 10 and 11 installs I’ve had

this isn’t a specific install, it’s Windows shitting the bed

in reply to SpudHead

@jorgaborg wouldn’t help me in the slightest since I’m specifically trying to port a program to Windows rn
in reply to Reid

sfc /scannow

then DISM commands (look up) if that don't fix it.

Some stuff from China arrived. Replacement decompression valve for Jonsered. And also the bolt that can just replace it.

And new o-rings for the fuel cap, so it can stop leaking my precious fuel everywhere. Too expensive to spill!

And a shiny new full chisel chain 🔪

Got a nice big table outside the garage now so I can do some work in the sun*.

Just in case like me you didn't know: You can get single SMD contacts like the one in the picture below on digikey under the "RFI and EMI - Contacts, Fingerstock and Gaskets" category, and on LCSC under the "Industrial control electrical / Antenna spring" category. I've looked for these more than once and haven't found them. Links:

It sounds to me like somebody is building a decade resistor box 😉

So I accidentally discovered something today that may be useful to people.

If you have an #REI dividend, but are increasingly reluctant to buy from REI, here's something annoying that they do that you can use to your benefit: if you use your dividend to place an online order and then cancel it (or, in my case, REI cancels the order because whoops they didn't actually have the thing you ordered), your dividend will be refunded to you.

Ha ha, no, not like an actual modern refund where your dividend gets put back in your account or anything useful like that. They send you a check, eventually, and in three weeks (literally how long they say the process takes) you can deposit your refund check and use your former REI dividend for whatever you want, wherever you want.
