Hey Canadians - remember that USA military professionals are professionally desensitized to atrocities

it's a LOT easier to ☮️ convince a bear the meal is inconvenient, than to claw back at something that survives by claw.

Now is a good time to reduce exposure - everything from financially divesting from the USA and USD instruments, to cycling in emergency water and food. It makes us less convenient.

I'm debugging the ROM emulation on the Firestarter. It looks as if the code to monitor ROM enable and ROM selection is working but the host crashes once it starts accessing the ROM.

The first access of the ROM is when BASIC calls KL_INIT_BACK to initialise background ROMs.

The first read is the LD A,(&C000). A few cycles later the ROM's init routine at &C006 will be called.

So on my list of things to tinker with for ages has been @syncthing just set it up on my arch laptop and the syncthing fork app on my droid phone. HOLEY SMOKES. It's awesome. Got it syncin' my #logseq folder which yes I rather glibly call "connection_cove". 'syncthing #opensource

It's great. I use @syncthing to sync my photos/etc onto the NAS now as part of my Google Photos replacement (on the NAS it is then duplicated into Immich). Took a little bit of setup, but then it "just works".

I was all excited about the lunar eclipse that was scheduled to start about 2am. However, I was fast asleep by 1230am and didn't wake up until 730am, so here is a picture of the moon I took much earlier in the evening with a little extra. #photography #fullmoon #sandhillcranes #HoosierMast

@loren No offense to the folks who got great eclipse shots, but that uh, eclipses all of them.

Called it. Wrote this back in Sept. 2024, about a clever Windows Powershell phishing scam that was targeting developers at the time. It uses a fake CAPTCHA that asks visitors to distinguish themselves from bots by pressing a combination of keyboard keys that causes Microsoft Windows to download password-stealing malware. Everyone said, bah, devs will never fall for this. Maybe, I said, but your average user would for sure.

Judging from the number of recent media reports, it appears this one is pretty widespread at the moment.

$ curl -fsSL https://example.com/install.sh | sh

might be acceptable to some users as it only effects the user's profile. Though I am going to do a

$ wget https://example.com/install.sh
$ vim install.sh

Examine the script to determine if it is malicious or flawed and then invoke it only if I find it acceptable. This is pretty standard among experienced users.

Decades ago someone might have been trusting enough to curl and invoke a script without examining it from unknown sources though that is not an acceptable practice today. Though some sites may still offer this as an install method. Most experienced users, especially devs, are going to examine the script before they run it on their system. The more paranoid are going to check it out first in a sandbox before installing it to a live system. I have a VM especially for this type of testing.

@SpaceLifeForm

And they probably do not know how to open a terminal to use the command either. Though, as I stated, I was referring to experienced users. Newbies on any system are bound to get themselves into trouble. That is a given.

One needs to add that many, many people in Iceland have more than one job to afford living there. And that sheds a differnt light on the story, doesn‘t it.
in reply to Boris Karnikowski

@boriskarnikowski Yes, someone mentioned that, and yes, it sounds like Iceland isn't quite the workers' paradise. It was nice to believe for a little while.

Its taken me over three years (!), but I finally sorted out some calibration and verification for a DIY pyranometer (solar irradiance) sensor I've been designing. With my simple test rig I found out the sensors have about +/-10% output variation (the datasheet says 11%, so quite close).
But if you need relative irradiance data or can cope with about 10% variation from absolute then this DIY sensor will work out of the box!
If you can calibrate it then it can be even better.

There is nothing in the constitution preventing us from taxing churches. The First Amendment protects the government from establishing or passing any laws that encourage a particular religion above any others in schools or elsewhere. Perhaps we should be taxing churches as not-for-profit enterprises if they can prove the qualification, regardless of what they do in politics.
