New year, new #Wikipedia list.
Billy Craigie was an Aboriginal Australian activist who was one of the original people creating the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra protesting the government's Australia Day statement on land rights (supporting leasing of the people's ancestral lands). They set up a beach umbrella, camped out, got arrested, started a movement. We had a photo of him in Flickr Commons so I wrote this up.

Not a lot is publicly known about Jessie Telfair except that she was a quilter, working as an elementary school cafeteria worker in the town where she was born in Georgia. She was inspired to register to vote by SNCC. When her employer found out, they fired her. She was then inspired to make this red, white, and blue quilt saying FREEDOM. It was purchased by a folklife collector and, further inspired, she made three more. They now all hang in museums.

I had a similar, much more brief post a few years ago because everybody expected the mod team to be perfect and know everything about anything and it made for some unhappy campers when they found out we weren't and I didn't feel like investing hours into learning a subject I wasn't interested in.

Over the past year I've been working on a video for "Horsetail," a song from my latest album, Five Thousand Feathers. Several locations, a lot of editing, shooting some extra footage, learning about various types of processing and how to use some new more powerful software, and now it's finally finished!

I have significantly updated the preprint manuscript for our AI Skill Threat study: it now includes a richly descriptive (I hope) overview of identity threat, has integrated many fresh references and sources of wisdom about developers since our first rough draft report, and more fully explicates our theory for how and why learning & belonging help mitigate threat experiences for developers
In my quest to advocate for the importance of seeing developers as WHOLE people, with WHOLE psychologies (not just brains in jars), I wrote:
"Feeling that an important identity is threatened is recognized as a highly impactful experience which can shape human behavior, and which takes diverse forms. For instance, in being categorized against oneโs will, in feeling oneโs identity-based value being undermined, or in experiencing threats to the acceptance or distinctiveness of oneโs identity"
