The protective value of HIBP k-anonymity lookups is significantly reduced because frequency data is included. The more common the password, the more this effect is magnified.
An example:
gist.github.com/roycewilliams/…
Using k-anonymity to return all hashes that begin with b2e98 is less "anonymous" when 98.6% of the passwords (by frequency) are the top one.

Still a cartoon, but no longer a joke.
I strongly advise anyone in the US who has put off a necessary medical or surgical procedure(s), get it done; schedule it as soon as feasible, if said medical service is available to you (not a given, if you have access to medical care use the privilege while you still have it). Particularly if you rely on Medicare or Medicaid.
Not going to bore you with personal details (i.e. advertise them across the surveill-o-verse) but I have already done so.

Today @BrodieOnLinux covered in his Youtube show #EU_OS. Thanks for putting us in your spotlight!

Few comments ahead of a possible appearance in the show in the future:
1) indeed, we are in concept phase. Join us here, on matrix at #eu-os:kde.org or at gitlab.com/eu-os/eu-os.gitlab.… if you like to contribute.
2) @opensuse is well known, but it's atomic @kalpa does not have the layering support and tooling like @fedora or @almalinux
3) On the US: it's not so black/white.

Submarine cables are getting 'ears' to detect the approach of possible saboteurs.
A really neat technique, whereby vibrations passing through a fiberoptic cable cause light in the cable to 'bounce' off-path, so registering a disturbance. For mega structures like subsea cables however, listening stations would supposedly need to be deployed every 100km. Interestingly, temperature changes can also disturb light path, so signalling that a cable may be being unburied.

@fredy's Italian postal bike had a problem where one of the bearing cups wouldn't thread in all the way because it was the wine thread pitch and some previous owner had forced it in until it cut new threads -- to a point.
The only solution i could come up with was to remove enough threads so that it could thread in without bottoming out on the threads that hadn't been recut further down in the bottom bracket.
We did this on the lathe, partially with cutting and partially with grinding.
Very hacky, but it worked

Holy shit, a technology that actually solves a real problem. You know, an actual advancement instead of a finance scheme dressed up with tech.
If this works, it could be really cool for renewable energy storage.

The image is a four-panel comic strip with a pink background. In the first panel, a character with red wings and horns, dressed in a black outfit, is speaking to another character with glasses and brown hair, wearing a green shirt. The red-winged character says, "I just had a Zoom meeting with my boss and he said empathy is a sin now." The second panel shows the character with glasses responding with, "...What?" The third panel features the red-winged character asking, "So I guess I'm supposed to tempt you to... care about others?" The fourth panel shows the character with glasses saying, "I'm confused." The red-winged character replies, "Me too." The comic strip is credited to [@]pizzacakecomic and includes a Patreon link at the bottom.

> Possibly defying a court order. Urging his Justice Department to prosecute nemeses. Repeatedly calling the media 'illegal.' Declaring a predecessor's pardon null and void. U.S. President Donald Trump has done these things in the past few days.
This is a common problem, one workaround is to add an additional image with the extra alt text.
If it still doesn't fit, then you can reply with yet another image for extra alt text.
I know it's not ideal 😦 It would be nice if vanilla Mastodon allowed admins to set higher character limits easily.
