Today's Low Quality Ad is for this Rechargeable Headlamp. I wear mine 24/7 because I want to be prepared if I ever fall through a sinhole into a system of dark winding caverns that I need to make my way out of. It could happen.

This Australian sugar ant (Camponotus consobrinus) warns us to avoid approaching her nest too closely. Melbourne, Australia.

in reply to Alex Wild

Would you say they are more bity than Camponotus pennsylvanicus?

Those mandibles do look a bit sharper.

in reply to myrmepropagandist

@futurebird They're similarly bitey, I'd say. Timid unless around the nest. These ones nest in soil, though.

#Greenpeace verdict is ‘weaponization of legal system’, advocacy groups say - theguardian.com/environment/20… "a classic example of a #Slapp – a form of civil litigation increasingly deployed by corporations, politicians and wealthy individuals to deliberately wear down and silence critics"

in reply to Glyn Moody

There's a big difference between the currently hyped AI (LLMs are mostly huge sunk costs in search of a revenue-generating application) and this sort of AI: this gets performance tested, and hard, against the data (and the existing software) and it has to show it doesn't hallucinate.

Shit. I forgot it was you that made that. I've been meaning to make one.

My wife does casting and painting things, she has a ram skull mold that I could piss around with to save drilling things for an ESP32 and LEDs.

in reply to JamesB

@mw1cgg I would love to see one of these built out of a ram's skull. It would be like a pagan altar to the internet god
in reply to Emily Velasco

It'll be a plaster casted one rather than a real one unless I find one while out and about, but she really wouldn't want me boiling up a real one in the house.

@mw1cgg This one is 3D printed. I didn't have any real cat skulls sitting around

You have given us both a good idea for a thing. She'll do the arty side and I'll do the electronics side. Credit will be given if it goes ok - although it won't be a commercial product she may sell some via her shop thing.

The image depicts a fantasy character, likely an elf, standing against a plain gray background. The character is dressed in dark, layered armor with a high collar and intricate detailing, including straps and buckles. The armor appears to be made of leather or a similar material, with a mix of dark brown and black tones. The character's long, silver hair cascades down their back, and they have pointed ears, a common trait of elves in fantasy lore. They are holding a curved sword in their right hand, which is sheathed and extends downward. The character's stance is confident and poised, with a serious expression on their face. The overall color palette is dark and muted, with the character's pale skin and silver hair providing contrast.

I generally feel like just opting out of the news entirely is irresponsible, there's a lot that we really need to know, but there are some stories that I am really glad to have missed. it has definitely saved me a lot of time both thinking about it and being mad about it that the very first thing that I have heard about "LG's NFT marketplace for TVs" is that it's shutting down mastodon.social/@verge/1141956…

Putin's calendar yesterday:

Afternoon: Agreeing to a Ukraine peace agreement in a phone meeting with Trump.

Midnight: Sending 200 drones to bomb civilians in Ukraine.

in reply to Randahl Fink

This is exactly what Zelensky said would happen when he was at White House. It was precisely this betrayal of agreements is that Zelensky pointed out that got Vance angry. Russia can't be trusted to uphold the deals they make so any deal-making without real deterrence is pointless.

It's good that Ukraine will supposedly get real air defense out of the deal and it's good that Trump is yet again humiliated, but what a clusterfuck...

That is one of the reasons why the EU has such strict privacy and AI laws. This here is, of course, an extreme example, but it demonstrates how "relaxed" companies act when there is virtually no accountability.

Something can work flawlessly in:

* Kde Plasma
* Budgie
* Lxqt
* Xfce
* Cinnamon
* Mate
* Lxde
* i3

And more, but if it does not work right in Gnome, the Gnome Development Teams, will claim everyone else is wrong.

If you prefer KDE or any of the myriad others, use them. Believe it or not, some people actually like the Gnome way of doing things. Other people, it seems, just like to bash on Gnome for sport.
