Texans Might Soon Have to Show Photo ID to Buy a Dildo Online
A new bill introduced by Angela Paxton, wife of Texas AG Ken Paxton, would impose privacy-invading age verification requirements on online sex toy retailers.Samantha Cole (404 Media)
As someone who once sent a pack of condoms to the Queensland Premier to protest against idiotic laws I highly recommend ensuring the legality of any dildos etc by sending images of the devices to the AG for approval.
No-one wants to inadvertently break the law.

OPSEC comes from people, not just tools. End-to-end encryption was undone by “end-to-end stupidity.” Perfect term.

This is neat: the United Nations have adopted a new set of 8 #OpenSource prinicples:
🔶 The UN Open Source Principles 🔶
1. Open by default: Making Open Source the standard approach for projects
2. Contribute back: Encouraging active participation in the Open Source ecosystem
3. Secure by design: Making security a priority in all software projects
4. Foster inclusive participation and community building: Enabling and facilitating diverse and inclusive contributions
5. Design for reusability: Designing projects to be interoperable across various platforms and ecosystems
6. Provide documentation: Providing thorough documentation for end-users, integrators and developers
7. RISE (recognize, incentivize, support and empower): Empowering individuals and communities to actively participate
8. Sustain and scale: Supporting the development of solutions that meet the evolving needs of the UN system and beyond.

Ambassador Rasool's expulsion: A new low in US - South Africa relations
South Africa's diplomat Ebrahim Rasool was welcomed as a hero in his home in Cape Town. But his departure marked an unusually big step in deteriorating ties between Washington and Pretoria.

🚦 We welcome the green light of the European Parliament and the Council to modernise EU driving licence rules, including:
🚗 EU driving licences on digital devices.
🚗 A minimum two-year probation period for novice drivers.
🚗 An EU-wide accompanied driving scheme from age 17.
🚗 Better training and testing to help drivers navigate safely around vulnerable road users.
🚗 Easier licence exchanges for citizens from non-EU countries.
These updates will modernise our licensing system, help with the shortage of professional drivers, and improve road safety.
Every road death is one too many – we are committed to bringing this number down to zero.

🚨 Let’s Encrypt at risk from Trump cuts to OTF: “Let’s Encrypt received around $800,000 in funding from the OTF”
Dear @EUCommission, get your heads out of your arses and let’s find @letsencrypt €1M/year (a rounding error in EU finances) and have them move to the EU.
If Let’s Encrypt is fucked, the web is fucked, and the Small Web is fucked too. So how about we don’t let that happen, yeah?
(In the meanwhile, if the Let’s Encrypt folks want to make a point about how essential they are, it might be an idea to refuse certificates to republican politicians. See how they like their donation systems breaking in real time…)

I really would like to share your optimism too.
If I can help in some ways, let me know. I was tracking the RFA budget withdraw and wondering how long OTF can survive without the funding.
@a We don't need to move Let's Encrypt to the EU. We need to run a EU-based equivalent, and make it so that the infrastructure they run is easily replicated.
As this development clearly demonstrates, Let's Encrypt is a single point of failure. It was never a good idea. It was just a less bad idea than others.
And no, that's absolutely not suggesting they didn't do great work. This is about designing for resilience.

After the US has sent a military plane to Greenland with bullet proof cars for driving around Usha Vance, Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen says:
“This is an unacceptable level of pressure from the US, and we will push back. […] The Americans cannot claim, this is a private visit, and no one can read this independently of the statements from them, on their desire to annex another country. […] The future of Greenland is defined by the people of Greenland and no one else.”

The image is a meme featuring a humorous contrast between a historical scenario and a modern party setting. At the top, there is a yellow background with text that reads, "The party having dinner: *Historically Accurate Medieval Barbarian: This was great, I'm gonna fuck some whores wanna come? The party:"
Below the text, there is a black and white image of four characters from an anime. The character on the left is holding a cup and appears to be looking at the others. The second character is wearing a detailed, armored costume and is holding a book titled "Holy Bible." The third character is a young girl with a surprised expression, holding a juice box with a straw. The fourth character is a male with spiky hair, holding a cup and looking sternly at the others.
At the bottom of the image, there is a note that reads, "*not actually historically accurate, but you know what I mean."

25 March 1941 | A Dutch Jewish boy, Alexander van der Stam, was born in Amsterdam.
He arrived at #Auschwitz on 6 December 1942 in a transport of 811 Jews deported from Westerbork. He and his mother Flora were among the 795 people murdered in gas chambers after selection.

Right. That's kind of the point! The proto-fediverse was dominated by a VC-funded startup -- just like today's ATmosphere. And eight to ten years later the next-generaiton protocols (originally also developed by a corporation) got refined and adopted by a standards bodies -- just like will probably happen with AT Proto.
And presumably just as somebody from a Meta-funded non-profit has repeatedly shut down criticisms of Meta on the W3C ActivityPub mailing list, at some point somebody from a Bluesky-funded non-profit will try to shut down criticisms of Bluesky on whatever standards group is trying to take things forward.
There's a lot to critique with Bluesky but many of the critques apply to the ActivityPub fediverse as well.

Options force-pushed to the user that override org policy settings? In a way that is completely invisible to an admin? And hidden four layers down in the user settings? What sort of evening-at-the-infosec-improv amateur hour is this?
If an endpoint can override policy invisibly you don't have a perimeter, you have a wishlist. WTF is going on at the big G these days?
