You know what would be a good "bit" is making a detailed YouTube explainer video about an entirely fake science experiment, that never occurred, mimic a real YouTube science video as much as possible, play the hoax totally straight. But if the reader (1) notices the video is fake and (2) pays close attention, they realize the video is just describing the plot of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

lol. I think you should count yourself lucky. The video came off as ai slop presented by a human.

I've updated the ottopot website and build instructions with the PCB version and the new case.
I'm considering this the v1 release πŸ™Œ

The ottopot is a MIDI controller with 8 endless potentiometers sending 14bit CCs.

Special thanks to @Nervengift for the PCB contribution.

Just in case like me you didn't know: You can get single SMD contacts like the one in the picture below on digikey under the "RFI and EMI - Contacts, Fingerstock and Gaskets" category, and on LCSC under the "Industrial control electrical / Antenna spring" category. I've looked for these more than once and haven't found them. Links:

Necessity is the mother of invention. It's not until we run out of new training data that we'll invent models that learn better.

If it's so important to national security, then nationalize Open AI.

Yay modern macOS.

You can probably 'skip' this annoyance by giving the app its access through system preferences. Full disk access for example, since you trust the app (right?)

I do that on Sonoma for apps I regularly use (code editor, spreadsheet app, ftp client and such) just to avoid this nonsense.

I rode the TGV once, and it was light years ahead of anything we have in the US now in 2025, I mean β€œlike aliens dropped me in the future” light years ahead.

I was going to say that the Amtrak is not terrible - and I think the coaches are fine actually. But the food was terrible and we survived by bringing our own and eating in restaurants during the 30-60min stops along the way. πŸ˜… And it is slow of course. The US not having high-speed rail is quite baffling.

in reply to azteclady

I know it's bad form to post links to Bluesky, but one of the authors owed several thousand dollars by #Unbound has found a clause in their contract that means the new (and ever more fucked up) #Boundless doesn't own their work.

Please read this thread by Alex De Campi:

And if you were thinking about working with #Boundless or its principals: don't. #Scam

It's acceptable to post the link I suppose, but you should verify first that one can read it without an account, which one cannot, so this becomes pointless, because asking people to create an account there is a bit much.

@romancelandia @bookstodon

sadly that kind of phoenix company bullshit is a common feature of, at least, UK contract law, and it's usually done to shirk debts - limited liability companies don't pay their bills, go into liquidation, then a new company arises that somehow has all the same people in it, but none of them can be pursued for the bills. a little overlap, and the old company can "sell" all its assets to the new company for a token sum before going into liquidation.

but of course, those assets are usually physical. not licences to intellectual property specifically written to be easy to terminate! oops... someone wasn't paying attention there

A friend was in the Toronto area last weekend and got this scam SMS today. Quite a coincidence. Is it possible that the scammers are using Stingray-type devices to scrape phone numbers for this kind of thing? I don't know much about the devices or how they work, just that they exist.

sls.eff.org/technologies/cell-…

I keep and edit these to train relatives. This one ticks all the boxes:
βœ“ Non-local (West Virginia in this case) area code (not shown)
βœ“ Scary language to throw the recipient off balance
βœ“ Chinese URL
βœ“ Standard scammer tactic to make the link (and any forthcoming) links active by inviting a reply
