BREAKING: The S&P 500 entered correction territory, closing more than 10% below the all-time high the index hit in mid-February.

Less than two months into the second Trump presidency, markets are telling the administration they're concerned about the impact of tariffs and rising odds of a recession.

Not So Sensitive Content Contemplation

I am not sure why. Some users go crazy with labeling everything as Sensitive Content. I guess they do not realize if you highlight everything on every page then essentially nothing is highlighted? Well, let them be them and I will be me. From here on out if it is labeled Sensitive Content I am ignoring that post. Not because it has sensitive content, rather because I am sure it does not. I will also start ignoring users that post everything they post as sensitive content.

I know it should not bother me. It does though so I will just make it go away.

Two weeks in after finding the Fediverse I decided to self-host friendica. It can be a pain at times though it is rewarding as well.

New instance, new #Introduction !

My name is Jürgen, and I translate old German folk tales into English - not just tales from the Brothers Grimm, but from the hundreds of other 19th century German folklorists out there.

To date, I have translated more than 700 tales. You can learn more about my project here (and you can get a free ebook version of my first book if you subscribe to my newsletter there):

I should point out that my interest is less in traditional "fairy tales" than in local local legends. The former tend to be more universal in their narratives, while the latter are deeply embedded in local geography, history, and culture.

I've even put most of these tales on an interactive map - either the town where they come from, or the actual place where the legend supposedly took place. You can see them for yourself on this interactive map!

With his detention and threatened deportation of lawful permanent U.S. resident Mahmoud Kahlil, Donald Trump has taken his contempt for the First Amendment to a disturbing new level, not merely chilling speech but literally criminalizing it. It's much worse than that. He is saying he can deport him without any charges. In addition, he has support from members of Congress that he should be allowed to deport anyone without even charging them.

Well my new Intel N100 16Gb ram, 250Gb NVME is now online running #OPNsense . I didn't need to do any of the changes that Ben Tasker mentioned it just gave a full on 1GB PPPoE connection. Fingers crossed I have most things set up correctly ? I did notice a bug after updating though. Before I updated the system health graphs showed the correct date and times now it is showing me the 14th and 10PM UK time yet the systems is reporting the correct date and time plus time zone as I'm using NTP. Oh well no doubt it'll get fixed shortly.

[ EDIT - The issue is resolved ]
I just had to reset the RRD in the settings and wait just over a minute and now all the graphs under health are working as expected. 😄

Go to Reporting -> Settings
Click "Reset RRD Data"
Wait over 1 minute

@inthehands

By any measure, a 1 year return of 40% is excellent.

I’ve been seeing a lot of these charts on Mastodon and I think anyone who is posting them is taking a premature victory lap.

Could it be that the Biden tax breaks were inflating the price? That those electric car tax subsidies went right into Elon Musk’s pocket? Were you posting pictures of the price *rising* during the Biden years?

in reply to Rob

@rob
The two most relevant metrics here, because we are talking about the impact of Musk’s fascist politics on his company, would be:

1. Return since the election

2. Return since inauguration

Go check those.

@Rob
in reply to Rob

@inthehands

I feel like these posts are not only dishonest, but they are just plain dumb.

I know so many people who bought Teslas because of the Biden tax breaks. What did you think was going to happen to Tesla’s stock price while they were in force? And after they expired?

Posts like “Tesla is down, yay!” just play into the conservative narrative - especially when you just look at a tiny sliver of data. They don’t care - they made 40+% over the previous year.

in reply to Rob

@rob For you, Rob:

The memo still hasn’t made it to everyone about the systemic function of the #TeslaTakedown protests. I still keep getting well-meaning quesitons like the one below from @tymwol.

The purpose is •not• just to register symbolic discontent. The purpose is •not• just to take individual action that directly harms Musk.

The purpose is to tank demand for Tesla’s product, and thus tank their stock price. This is Musk’s biggest vulnerability, Smaug’s exposed belly.

@Rob
in reply to Paul Cantrell

@inthehands
Question: what were you saying when Biden was shoveling buckets of money to Tesla?

Please point me to those posts.

in reply to Rob

@rob @inthehands I have no idea what kind of reply guy bullshit you're on about, I want Tesla stock to fail is it personally bothers Elon Musk and that's it. I don't care what Biden did. Please stop being deliberately obtuse.
in reply to Sablebadger

Yeah, I just muted him. He’s being an ass, and I’m uninterested in learning more about why.

@Rocket There are extensions to automate it so that every single page you visit is automatically saved if it hasn't been saved in the last 30 days.

AI search engines give incorrect answers at an alarming 60% rate, study says
CJR study shows AI search services misinform users and ignore publisher exclusion requests.
arstechnica.com/ai/2025/03/ai-…
in reply to Ars Technica

There's a lot of issues about how LLMs are trained (and with the ways they obtain training data). But in this case the problem is more about the tooling around search in LLMs than the LLMs themselves. In most cases it just uses a regular search engine and then feed the first N results (converted to plain text) to the LLM, so the quality is highly dependent on the query, the search engine results, as well as the quality of the conversion to text.

And as we know, search engines are much worse now... but they're still better being used directly rather than indirectly through one of these services.

in reply to Ars Technica

I'm not surprised, I've been assuming this for a while.
The problem is that all these AI companies just plug in a search engine and expected to work.
Most search engines these days suck, so if your base is bad, your results will be bad.

That's why I love @kagihq cause they're search first, AI second. They have a solid search engine, which then also makes the ai searching much better. WHO WOULD HAVE EXPECTED
