"The new record to beat? Well, that was just taken on 10 January by American gamer and speedrunner Niftski, who zipped through the game in a shocking 4 min and 54.565 sec and collected the title for fastest completion of Super Mario Bros."

We're going to be talking to OpenMV (openmv.io/) on the show. They have small cameras for $80-150 US. They are programmed in MicroPython and have enough processing power to to do some AI and drive motors (or lights).

What would you use such a camera for?

Extremely silly answers only.

This is actually a serious answer, sorry. In animal rescue, semi-feral kittens are hard to live-trap. So I want a live trap with a camera and image processing to detect kittens, then activate the livetrap with a motor or solenoid when a maximum number of kittens is inside.
in reply to Elecia White

If it can capture into a buffer and dump on a trigger I’d love it to catch our cavies when they get the zoomies. Easier job: letting us know when lizards are warming up on the driveway.

“Every American should be chilled to the core by the overwhelming display of constitutionally protected speech we found on this deviant’s computer and phone,” Kash Patel said as he stood before a table covered in countless hard drives, folders, and documents that he described as “disturbing evidence” of America’s most inalienable and foundational right being put into practice.

Went to the community garden with the kids to do some annual maintenance and help install some accessible raised gardens.

These are high enough that you can plant without stooping so low to the ground. It also allows wheelchair users to roll up to them and plant without having to get out of their chair.

Suggestion: Test Android competitors to ipad mini (8" or so) -- there has to be something out there that's acceptable and much cheaper, no?

Looks like my Chromecast Audio got an OTA update or something today while I was at work - it's working like it used to.

Dug into Xata Agent, a new LLM-driven system to help monitor and optimize a PostgreSQL database. It's built around "playbooks", which are prompts that look like this. Building software with LLMs is so weird! simonwillison.net/2025/Mar/13/…
in reply to Simon Willison

No step 2? Is the LLM supposed to figure out that step and insert it?
in reply to Simon Willison

It's interesting how the steps get more fuzzy later in the playbook; 1,3,4a are fairly defined things to do, 4b has things like 'stands out' which requires some 'thought' and 5 has the 'Think if it makes sense..'
