I'm reading a 1987 Japanese magazine named Hacker and it's adorable. Besides talking about all kinds of bootlegs and erogames, it's got how-to instructions for how to defeat copy protection on PC-88 games. Like, here's how you format a disk and then run this BASIC code to copy the WIZARDRY game disk.

It's on the archive. There's some nudity in it, so beware:

The image depicts a fantasy character with elf-like features, including pointed ears. She has long, blonde hair styled in two braids, each tied with a red ribbon, and a red bow on top of her head. She is wearing a blue robe with a red ribbon at the neckline and a brown satchel on her hip. The robe has a golden trim at the hem and sleeves. She holds a thick, twisted wooden staff in her right hand. The background shows a misty, forested area with ruins, suggesting a mystical or ancient setting. The character's expression is calm and composed, and she appears to be standing in a natural environment.

Called both of my (Democratic) Senators to (1) thank them for voting against the CR and (2) ask them to pressure Schumer to step down as Senate Minority Leader.

I’ll be following up with a “thank you for your service” note to Schumer’s office. Schumer was fine as a normal-times leader in the Senate, but he’s not up to the task of opposing full-scale fascism. We desperately need opposition leaders who are. mastodon.social/@heidilifeldma…

This is a wild news conference!

Canadian Prime Minister Carney’s first foreign meeting is with French President Macron.

Traditionally, the first meeting would be with USA or UK. But now his first meeting is with France.

Symbolically, this represents a big re-alignment geo-politically. And if you hear Macron’s words, you’ll understand exactly what this means: he says Canada and France have a shared cultural heritage and values.

But also, unlike Trudeau, Carney has an Anglophone heritage. Not Francophone. Yet here, he primarily speaks French in this news conference. Because the emphasis here is that French is a core element of Canadian identity.

What does this mean? Already, Canadian media are calling France—not USA—Canada’s closest ally. This has never happened in my lifetime.

“Protesters on the National Mall — many of them veterans — called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump Friday.”

“Homemade signs denouncing Trump and Elon Musk and demanding the president be removed from office were everywhere — ‘No kings! No DOGE! No cuts to VA!’ 'Stop the coup,’ and ‘I serve no kings.’”

UPDATE: The number remains at 736. That means the number is nearly as big as a Boeing 737. It is also infinitely less likely to crash. Very impressive.

The image is a two-panel meme featuring a shirtless young man adjusting his glasses. In the top panel, the man is seen holding his glasses with both hands, looking directly at the camera. The background shows a room with blue wallpaper and shelves filled with various items. To the right, the text "Dungeons & Dragons" is displayed in bold red letters.

In the bottom panel, the man is again adjusting his glasses, but this time with a more serious expression. The background remains the same. To the right, the text "Schedules & Conflicts" is displayed in bold red letters, with a stylized dragon's head replacing the ampersand.

The meme humorously contrasts the excitement of playing Dungeons & Dragons with the frustration of dealing with real-life scheduling conflicts.

The newest addition to my phone collection is this gorgeous red GPO Tele 312

This one was made by Plessey in 1956, and seems to be as-issued - at nearly 70 years old, it deserves some TLC.

The dial is seized solid (most likely a broken dial spring) there's a lot of dirt to get rid of, there are a few minor scratches/blemishes that should polish out, and it needs new cords etc.

The handset is faded, but I might be able to pull that back a bit if I'm lucky

It should clean up /very/ nicely!

@F4LUB can't say for sure, as that was picked long before I was involved in the club, but if I had to wager a guess it's probably the first one they found where "narwhal" wasn't already taken 😀

No trip to St Louis is complete without a visit to the absolutely insane City Museum. Don't let the name fool you, it's a giant 10 story building covered, inside and out, wall to wall, floor to ceiling with art. Sculptures you can climb on and through. Secret passages that start in a hole in the bottom of a mosaic tile column and end two floors up. On the roof there's a giant metal preying mantis, Ferris wheel and school bus hanging over the edge of the building.

the City Museum is the best. When my wife and I went to visit St Louis for a few days, we had plans to see lots of things. Instead, we spent two full days climbing around the museum.

The place is one of a kind. Absolutely no regrets, either.

They have a cave system and human sized steel habitrail tube.

If anyone is looking for an "Alternative" shirt design that still plays off of this year's upcoming #HamRadio #FieldDay theme, but doesn't want to send money to those other folx, I have a new design put up. I also threw in a quantity discount in case anyone wants to get several of these for their club.

The US has sent detainees to El Salvador, ignoring a court order and exposing the detainees to human rights violations.

Last year our FTP homies at The Fire These Times podcast interviewed Michael Paarlberg, associate professor of political science, on what El Salvador's system looks like, where president Nayib Bukele comes from, and how the state of El Salvador is implicated in gang violence.

Hey everyone, a quick update and I need to ask for your help!

I've reorganised the fedi.directory website a bit so that there is now a dedicated "News" section, have a look at:

➡️ fedi.directory/news-media

It would be nice to include as many news sources as possible, so please let me know if there is a news account you would like me to add, or a country you would like me to cover better.

Very happy to list news accounts in any language and from any country.

Being a weirdo and bringing flies in the house to feed this little lady who has taken up residence in one of my windows

That's weird? Uhm, I had a pet spider in the bathtub for quite some time whom I vengefully fed the moths that ate holes into my carpet to.

It was very satisfying to watch. She'd eat everything else but drop the wings, so over time a bunch of wings collected in the bottom of the tub.

Eventually the lettings agents (🤮) announced an inspection (😡) and I had to put her outside and clean the tub.
