The image is a three-panel meme featuring a scene from a TV show. In the first panel, a man labeled "The (drunken master) Monk" is pointing and saying, "And then I used Finger of Death to finish the dragon off." He is in a restaurant setting with a colorful background. In the second panel, a woman labeled "The Cleric" is sitting at a table with a margarita, looking surprised and saying, "But you can't cast-." In the third panel, the same woman is reacting with a shocked expression, saying, "Oh..." The setting is a lively restaurant with other patrons in the background.

The last time I flew in a helicopter was in 2014. It was for a work photo/video shoot. I mounted a GoPro to get some BTS footage. All the shots of the woman next to me are her looking at her phone.

I got a little queasy leaning out of the helicopter to shoot photos but I did not get sick. (Whew!)

If you're using Mastodon through a computer, did you know you can access almost all of its functions through keyboard shortcuts? There's a complete list of shortcuts plus more info here:

➡️ fedi.tips/using-mastodon-throu…

Some of these will only make sense in Mastodon's multicolumn mode, but most of them work in all modes.

NOTE: You don't have to use any of these shortcuts, everthing can be done through the mouse too. The keyboard shortcuts are just for people who prefer them 🙂

When I click on a post it does not seem to show replies in most recent first order. I could not figure out if there was a way to sort it that way.

@themak

Ahhh okay... The replies in threads are shown chronologically with oldest first. As far as I know there's no option to show newest first on the official interface.

A third party app might be able to offer this option, but I don't know of one at the moment. Sorry! 😦

In 1968, Douglas Engelbart revolutionized computing by showing the mouse, hypertext, and collaborative computing in "The Mother of All Demos". Most of his ideas are now part of everyday computing, but one device—the keyset—failed to catch on. Let's look at Engelbart's demo and the keyset. 1/N

In 1994, Wired writer Steven Levy wrote a book "Insanely Great: The Life and Times of Macintosh, the Computer that Changed Everything". He discussed how Engelbart influenced the Mac, calling the 1968 demo "the mother of all demos". The name stuck, ensuring the fame of Engelbart's demo.
in reply to Ken Shirriff

Engelbart's daughter, Christina Engelbart, loaned me a keyset, so I built a USB interface for it and plugged it into my laptop. I had a hard time using the keyset and I'm not surprised it didn't catch on. Supposedly it takes "only" a week to learn, too long for me.

Two weeks of 3D printing has led to these successfully formed plates of steel. They are 3 of the parts that will eventually become Aragorn's coronation vambraces.

Are you pressing the metal on the forms? How do the 3d printed forms hold up?

@mcc Some faux meat makers (like impossible and Beyond) actually prefer/request their products be put next to the meat products as an alternative for people who buy meat. Traditional vegan/vegetarian products would be in their own area (maybe with tofu). Vegetarians/vegans aren't generally happy about having to go into the meat section, but it's aimed at converting meat eaters.

It's not always true. Nothing about people is.

But it's remarkable how often you hear a guy going on about The Rules For Correctly Being A Man and think, I know something true about this man that he will spend the rest of his life in a miserable struggle to not admit to himself.

I'm equally confused and amused by the soup thing. And where is the line between a stew or chili con carne and soup? Who chooses? Who precides over the court of masculinity? Are they appointed by God or elected? Can non-men vote?
in reply to mhoye

the reasons behind why this guy is spouting nonsense are worthy of examination but the nonsense formed by his particular mouth noises is not.

As someone who grew up in West Virginia and has visited all 55 counties, this very much needed, thank you. WV faces many structural issues that keep people in poverty that UBI may or may not fix. Investing some of this money into quality #education with quality teachers paid a legitimate salary, would, IMO, go a long way to sustain a path out of poverty.

I like the "ask everyone in the frame before taking pictures" policy. That been said I also enjoy seeing pictures with a few hackers on them. Great shot

Would it be inaccurate or uncharitable to summarise this vulnerability as: Web framework uses string formatting hack to allow internally bypassing middleware, doesn't prevent external users using it too? Seems fundamentally severe and would shake my confidence in the project.
in reply to James Scholes

@jscholes yeah, that's about right - the vulnerability itself doesn't shake my confidence much because every mature framework eventually uncovers mistakes like this - what matters is the response

In this case their response could have been a lot better though - see the timeline in the post, they clearly have room for process improvement there

in reply to Simon Willison

that is a weird one. just looking at the code and seeing “split” is a bad sign
