With the Spring Semester behind me, I've finally snagged a copy of your book.

A Lentent exploration of (un)knowing God sounds like a theological feast for the spiritually hungry & philosophically restless. I'll be reading it at the pace it deserves. Unhurried, thoughtful & caffeinated.

This is their goal, to bankrupt the country and blame it on democrats. This is the knly way they get rid of SS and Medicare. They can't be seen to vote against it, so they do this....
in reply to Frankie ✅

They took Trump's incredible skill at bankruptcy, and applied it to government. But more efficiently.

"Asked about dental care and pharmacare, two programs the Liberals established over their last term in government, Poilievre pledged to “protect these programs.”"

nationalpost.com/news/politics…

I hope all the people who've been claiming Mr. Poilievre would cancel these programmes will now mention his pledge to keep them.

Be sceptical if you want, but it's only fair to note what a politician promises.

@annecavicchi That's probably right. If expanding pharmacare and dental care are your main political goals, it would be a mistake to support Mr. Poilievre. Probably Mr. Singh is the leader most likely to expand such programmes.

How Elon Musk’s SpaceX Secretly Allows Investment From China

As a U.S. military contractor, SpaceX sees allowing Chinese ownership as fraught. But it will allow the investment if it comes through secrecy hubs like the Cayman Islands, court records say. “It is certainly a policy of obfuscation,” an expert said.

in reply to ProPublica

The US FINCEN (Financial Crimes unit of the FBI) has started getting more forceful in demanding that companies file a "BOI" - a statement of beneficial ownership or interest. The idea is to make it easier to figure out who actually owns, operates, and controls companies that exist under complicated webs of owning corporations and trusts.

Whether that BOI system will continue under FFOTUS is an open question.

in reply to ProPublica

It seems like loyalty to America and the American people, isn't something given very high priority in Musk's brain. Money is Elon's "thing" - the number one priority! No matter who's paying, and from where - as long as it can "be made legal". 🌾

In de VS is ophef ontstaan over een journalist die kon meelezen met een groepschat van de Trump-regering. Het is slordig en onverantwoord en zet mensenlevens op het spel. De schuld bij de app leggen, is een manier om eigen fouten te verbloemen.

Some people hit the report spam button too eagerly rather than engage. Some people engage with real spammers and accidentally amplify them rather than reporting. Unfortunately, avoiding these errors requires fixing all of the people, which is not feasible (occasionally people try and it tends to end really badly).

The Universe should be full of alien civilizations. Why can’t we find any?
arstechnica.com/science/2025/0…
in reply to Ars Technica

I think there is a very good chance there are other intelligent civilizations in the Universe. My guesses for why we don't see them (some points already made by others here):
1. Space is very big and stars are very far apart
2. All evidence to date and our best theories of physics say FTL travel is impossible (yes, I know about “warp drives," and they are impossible too AFAWK).
3. The closest one may be too far away to detect.
4. Only a few survive long enough.

Yeah, I wish I had any idea of how to stop that. Not really because I value my own stuff so much, but because I really dislike "AI" and don't want to help it in any way.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has released an open source project called Rayhunter. It is designed to run on an inexpensive (~$20) mobile hotspot and look for signs of mobile spying devices called cell-site simulators. Also known as Stingrays or IMSI catchers, they masquerade as legitimate cellphone towers, tricking phones w/in a certain radius into connecting to the device rather than a tower.
