Do you want to start uploading to the Fediverse video platform PeerTube?

I've made a guide that tries to answer the most common questions about publishing videos on PeerTube:

➡️ fedi.tips/how-to-publish-video…

The guide covers why you would want to publish on PeerTube, finding a server or setting up your own, how to promote your account, when to upload, accounts vs channels, how often to upload, sponsors etc.

If I've missed something out, let me know!

So maybe I am using the service wrong, but how do I view videos from multiple instances in one feed? When I try to make an account, it appears that I only get videos from the instance I am on. I would like to see from every server that talks to the one I am on. What am I doing wrong?

Also, I wish there was better implementation into mastodon. It feels jarring to have to do things that feel like work arounds to see videos on mastodon too.

in reply to Only Exception

If you follow a PeerTube account from Mastodon, the videos appear in your feed and you can interact with them just like you would with any other post. For example click on @helenmclaughlin

Was there a particular thing you wanted to do that felt workaroundish?

About PeerTube instances, the videos they show on their own site depend on what the admin wants to do. Some of them just show local videos, some show entire other instances, some show just particular accounts.

I wanted a comment section within mastodon for the peer tube video. Specifically to send a comment to the video.

I also want it to show related videos after it ends.

keep in mind I gave up on trying to figure out intergration as I was gettnig lost and consufesd.

could you please point me to a peertube instance that is widely connected? I have tried the sign up page but alot of instances don't take new accounts. And many have content prefrences too.

in reply to Only Exception

You can comment on a video by just replying to it within Mastodon. Replies get converted into comments automatically. Also ⭐ becomes 👍

You can see related videos if you click on the video link to open it on its own PeerTube site.

"could you please point me to a peertube instance that is widely connected?"

You might want to try sepiasearch.org if you want to search a very wide range of instances. This is the official search engine run by PeerTube themselves.

Hoping to get into some #AprilApples fun with my Dad. I have the first computer he ever used (he bought it with his younger brother in 1979, and his brother's had it all these years until he sadly passed away last year). It's an original Apple ][, and I found out it still has the receipt, warranty papers, manuals, and full set of cassettes with software!
in reply to Jeff Geerling

I remember these. Accessing peripherals with PR commands “Please Read”. Using a cassette tape recorder for storage before floppy drive prices came down.
in reply to Magnus Hedemark

@maurice Indeed; a lot of the software that was included with this whole bundle of 8-bit computing was on cassettes! Had to buy a Jensen cassette player 😀

By mistake the Trump administration deports a family’s father plus a gay hairdresser thinking that they both were gang members.

This is exactly why people are offered due process when charged with a crime — so a rogue government cannot harm the innocent.

The war on wind and solar is fuelled by right-wing misinformation and fossil interests.

But renewables keep breaking records, outpacing targets and proving they are viable.

Imagine how much further and faster we could go if political leaders put their full weight behind them!

A really depressing but accurate summary of creative industries right now: nytimes.com/interactive/2025/0…

(Also, if you are relying on text/image-generation models to replace actual workers, it looks and reads like crap, you get what you pay for, and people notice that you're cheap. Yuck.)

I read this yesterday and felt so bummed. I already moved away from journalism for something more stable and now even my more secure job is looking less sure because of this garbage.

What are society and culture going to be like when the only people employed are engineers and lawyers?

in reply to Emily Velasco

@MLE_online Yeah. I miss being on the car culture beat, but there's hardly any places for that left that pay worth a damn or even have space for other people. Every time I've had to look for a new job, it's resulted in an existential-crisis-level round of severe depression.

Society is so cooked. 🙁

All surveillance tech should have a log showing who used it, when it was used, what the search parameters were, & why they used it so others can come back "and verify the person wasn’t using it to stalk their ex-wife,” EFF’s Dave Maass told @TexasObserver. texasobserver.org/texas-dps-su…
in reply to Electronic Frontier Foundation

How about we just ban government and government contractors from owning, possession, or use of surveillance tech. This on top of acquisition of data from any such systems so they can't get around the law on a technicality. Then lets make it possible for the public to enforce it through the civil courts where companies, law enforcements, and government employees involved in violation of the law can all be held jointly civilly liable by any member of the public. It seems like it would be a lot easier. Then the EFF, ACLU, and others can have a field day with going after the perpetrators of the crime.

@quizzicus The FCC license for the station says the radiation resistance of the antenna is 50.5 ohms, so at 50KW, that would be about 1600V.

Examples of what Trump gutted today (there's more):

- CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program, which helps the cruise industry prevent public health issues, inspects cruises, and provides information on outbreaks

- Lead Poisoning branch that works to eliminate childhood lead

- the Asthma and Air Quality Branch, which focuses on minimizing nonoccupational human exposure to air pollutants, carbon monoxide, mold, and wildfires
