Photographers Are on a Mission to Fix Wikipedia's Famously Bad Celebrity Portraits

I saw a picture of the actual recorder, and it was flattened like a pancake. How disappointing it must have been to go to all the effort to recover data only to discover that it was useless because of sloppy maintenance.

Pokemon Go sale to a Saudi Arabian company owned by govt comes with six separate corporate announcement blogs, not one of them directly addressing what happens to 100 million people's location data, AR mapping capabilities, or the AI maps they have been training:

Beadwork! Right shoulder is done!

Every bead was hand stitched.

I decided that simplicity in the bugle beads is best to show off the leaves. Was also closer to what I've seen on period garments for this style.

Some parts I pulled out 4 times to get right.

There's a lot of working out of little techniques and materials-wrangling, isn't there!

Oh, yes, the finished piece is so much better!

I’ve been experimenting with classic flowerpot shapes, like these, inspired by Roman vases. They make a great base for painting or decorating with mosaic tiles for a personalized touch. With heights from 100 to 300 mm and diameters from 175 to 400 mm, there’s bound to be one that fits your printer!

Check it out: printables.com/model/746685

I absolutely don't need a flowerpot, but I love looking at your well-made uploads, including the detailed documentation and the STEP file!

FYI Canada: This would be an *exceptionally* good time to do something like this with infosec employees

flipboard.com/@globeandmail/ca…

If nothing else I suspect your government could leapfrog up several rungs in the nation-state infosec rankings instantly just by doing targeted hiring from the reported mass firings of queer employees of letter agencies

in reply to mcc

Do this across all professions and research areas. Seems like a no brainer...
in reply to mcc

Same for science and technology. Every country should be doing their own "Operation Paperclip" to get the displaced US scientists.

It's normally safe to swallow an apple seed, because the coating prevents digestion, so it passes harmlessly through. However, if the seed has been broken open, then you're looking at a swift but painful death.
in reply to Low Quality Facts

The Johnny Appleseed legend has been sanitized beyond recognition. In fact, he was responsible for single-handedly eradicating elephants from North America.

Found some early spring wild onions!

(Notes: these are everywhere around here. We only picked a small handful of bulbs. Generally you'd only snip the leaves and allow the bulb to stay in the ground to keep growing. And you only harvest a small amount amongst a larger crop so that they keep growing year after year.)

@Apiary - Oooh, even better! Means you can just pull up all the bulbs!

Here is the alt-text description for the image:

A rectangular sign with a white background and dark blue trim reads "Church of Morongo" in a stylized font at the top, along with a small dove graphic and a cross. Below, in larger, blocky black letters, is the question "IS THE LORD YOUR DADDY?". The sign is mounted on a dark background.

12 March 1939 | A French Jewish boy, Roger Portigheis, was born in Nice.

He arrived at #Auschwitz on 20 December 1943 in a transport of 850 Jews deported from Drancy. He was among 505 people murdered in a gas chamber after the selection.

: why does this boy look like a girl?

Have you perhaps mixed up this picture with the toddler (born on 24 January 1943) shown in mastodon.world/@auschwitzmuseu… ?

Why does victims.auschwitz.org/victims?… return "... the person you were looking for was not found"?

The world needs more people like Mark Klein, who revealed the NSA's warrantless wiretapping program at AT&T because he felt like he was "plugging in the Big Brother machine." eff.org/deeplinks/2025/03/memo…

Huh. I got this email and it does seem to be sent by paypal, but the To field is not my email address or one I know. I checked my paypal account and there's nothing about this. Any idea how I got this email? I'm assuming it's a scam.
in reply to Al Sweigart

I figured out the scam and wrote it up here: reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/1j…?

Basically, they set up their merchant account with a merchant name that is literally, "If you do not recognize the seller, please contact.." hoping you don't notice all the other wrong details. But this does get them a legit email with a digital signature signed by the real paypal.com, which they forward to you.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mark Klein. In 2006, Mark showed up at EFF’s front door with a simple question: “Do you folks care about privacy?” We did. And what Mark told us changed everything. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/03/memo…

I remember him and what he did. He is a hero.

Then there was the corporate and government campaign saying everything is okay, we need to be safe. That is about when people started saying, "I have nothing to hide."

I undertook a similar exercise (finding hosting providers in friendly jurisdictions) recently, but with slightly narrower requirements (e.g. permissive of anti-Zionist speech, permissive of pornography, etc...)

I found a few providers not listed at your link too.

in reply to Misofist

Your CDN shares their data with Meta (Facebook). More to the point, they share it with a company, that Meta has such close business dealings, I'll not be surprised if we buy them.

Your hosting provider is a reseller, using Amazon. whoishostingthis.com
