Catch @Mastodon's CFO @mellifluousbox, currently speaking on the @eff panel "EFFecting Change: Is There Hope for Social Media?"

Really, #Europarlement, I see nine social media buttons at the bottom of your site at:

europarl.europa.eu/portal/en

All to non public values driven, #privacy disrespecting #socialmedia platforms.

How is it possible that there is no #Mastodon button? Mastodon the only truly decentralized, public value driven, #opensource and independent social media platform.

How wil the #EU reach #DigitalSovereignty and #StrategicAutonomy when its #parlement gives such a bad example.

Practice what you preach!

Mr @satsuma is the guest host for the #ThursdayFiveList this week and would like to hear #FiveKisses .
Predictably I've managed to find some appropriate goth tunes.

@sundogplanets and I are seeing the exact same spam bot pattern on Mastodon.

@Gargron is there a way we can report this pattern, so you guys can look into it?

Idaho history teacher is told to remove sign which is no longer acceptable in the United States. School director was heard in a podcast sating that if all the hands were same colour , it would be acceptable.
Teacher did comply, but then decided to put sign back up, was told she has until end of term to remove it or face consequences.

MAGA racism and white supremacy has gotten down to policies in grade schools.

USA values of freedom etc only apply if you are white now. despicable.

in reply to Jean-Francois Mezei

Please tell me there was malicious compliance.

"if all the hands were same colour , it would be acceptable. "

And then pick a lovely, natural, human dark brown for all the hands.

Tech companies should commit to oppose legal demands for journalists’ electronic communications records and fight gag orders.

Better yet, they should expand end-to-end encryption to collect as little information as possible about user communications.

Unfortunately, the response from @seattlein2025.org is misguided. While I appreciate the concern for LBGTQ travellers, it is dangerous at this time for *anyone* to travel to the US. CBP Guards now have fixed quotas of people to deport and encouragement to be cruel.

in reply to Jay Blanc

Seriously. Considering I have both criticized the administration online and openly supported fairness and equality (DEI), I expect that any attempt to enter the US[LN]A would result in my being thrown into an isolation cell in some southern state, followed by being flown to a Salvadorean prison, all without any legal representation.

No thanks. At this point I wouldn't even get on a flight that went through US airspace, let alone set foot on land.

❗️"If Russia does not plan to invade its neighbors again, it is unclear why it should not accept security guarantees that are only defensive," she noted.

Once again Molotov cocktails are overrated. Very dramatic but not practical at all.
If you accidentally left an oilly rag on one of those tires, which you just used to wipe away some flamable glue... You might not even notice for 15 minutes or longer your car was beyond saving.
Tragic.

West Papuan Indigenous people call for #KitKat boycott over alleged ecocide - theguardian.com/world/2025/mar… "Thousands of acres of rainforest is being cleared to produce #palmoil, used in popular #Nestlé and #Mondelēz brands"

in reply to Frankie ✅

The image features a frog dressed in a formal black suit with a white shirt and a brown vest, sitting in a chair. The frog has a serious expression and is positioned against a plain, muted background. At the top of the image, there is text that reads, "Gentlemen, it is with great pleasure to inform you that." At the bottom, the text states, "AFTER 6 YEARS OF FOREVER DM I GET TO PLAY MY FIRST PC." The overall tone of the image is humorous, with the frog's attire and the text creating a juxtaposition between the formal setting and the casual announcement.

I am one of the organizers of a huge annual international academic conference. This year it's in the U.S.

I don't think I can, in good conscience, recommend that any of our international members attend.

in reply to Alan Langford 🇨🇦🧤🧊摏

@alan @artemis The feasibility of relocating to Canada may depend on the size of the conference: some years ago I attended some standards meetings and they always seemed to be held in the wrong season. The reason was that there aren't that many venues that can hold a very large group so you have to get the venue several years in advance.
At least that's the reason they gave us.
in reply to Bill Zaumen

@bzdev @artemis Agreed. That was probably a valid reason, there's only a handful of very large venues, but for the next tier down there should be more options.
