in reply to Edwin G.

The only people I see talking about this anymore are Canadians.

I'll grant, I'm not part of the crowd that wanted to do this to begin with, but, still.

Trump's wagging the dog, here: all these things are distractions and ridiculous claims and statements of intent that he really has no intent on following through with.

Want it to go away? Quit talking about it. No *THINKING* American (or, United Statesian, as you put it) wants any of this to happen, either... so..

We know what he's doing. We're not happy about it. It's all bluster and bloviation.

@admin Consider the following hypothetical scenario.

The government of Jupiter decides it wants to annex the United States of America. And it keeps repeating it, over and over and over. How would you feel and react?

The government of the USA has been changing goalposts while leaving this specific threat as is.

And for the record, the message is getting through, here’s The Guardian in the UK
theguardian.com/world/2025/mar…

Now, if only the real threat would shut up and stop.

in reply to Edwin G.

@admin The last thing one wants to do is become complacent.

But Canadians have been the victim of lack of respect from USA residents for months now, including an USA official crossing the border from side to side saying: “USA #1 / 51st state”.
montrealgazette.com/news/provi…

And it’s not only Canada, but also Greenland:
bbc.com/news/articles/cr4236e2…

And Panama:

😀

in reply to Eh Eye Ate Dub Yah ✡︎

@admin I won’t argue on the common threats you mentioned, which include also the Russian Federation.

But I do have to ask you a simple question: when did this whole thing start (as in a calendar date)?

We might have two different starting points.

in reply to Edwin G.

Honestly, it's my opinion the roots of this started back in the mid 90s, and entire series of books could be written about how we got here from there.

I just hate seeing citizens railing at citizens of other countries for the stupid shit our governments do.

Calling citizens out for the unhinged actions of "leaders" whose names start wit "T" seems a bit like blaming Afghanistan for things Zimbabwe did.

A thread 1/?

Trump started this. In 2020 he personally negotiated and signed the USMCA saying it was the greatest trade agreement in history

He then decided he wants Canadian resources and now is trying to destroy our economy usingtariffs and lies and manipulating the USian mind--obviously you need to stop watching fox news btw

I'm tired. I was expecting to see a gas cylinder that had been crushed.

There's a horrendous loud, high-pitched continuous beeping outside, so I clapped on the noise-cancelling headphones so I could work and preserve some sanity. The first thing my music app suggested was George Clinton and the P-Funk, so everything I write today gonna be FUNKY. 🎶

John Adams regretted signing the Sedition Act of 1798, which restricted press freedom. He told his son it was "never a favorite" of his. The law expired in 1801, but its legacy as a restriction on free speech endures. A history professor explains: buff.ly/6HCy4Vx

Dear station playlist. Stop screwing with my hearing. I’ve had to spend half the day fixing your stupid settings. And I have to get this show recorded before Friday.
in reply to Duyahn

no cookies for you SPL! lol. here is hoping you can whip it into shape.
in reply to JamminJerry

@JamminJerry I think I finally fixed it. There’s one setting I do like and I’m going to use it. It has to do with commercials. I’m going to tell station playlist not to Crossfade those. I don’t think personally it’s necessary. That’s just in my opinion.

Hey, fellow #neurodivergent folks! Especially fellow #AuDHD folks.

Do you have a flirt radar?
I do not.
I never know when anyone is flirting with me.
Almost all the time when it does happen, someone else has to point it out to me & even then, I usually don't see/understand what they're talking about.
I do not know how to flirt either.
I am very direct. In the past, my straight forward nature has intimidated many NTs & some NDs who haven't invested much time in getting to know me better.
I'm quite friendly & engaging with almost anyone whom I find interesting & seems to share similar core values. It doesn't matter what gender, if any, they identify with either.
My straight forward friendly style seems to make many CIS guys think I'm interested in more than platonic friendship, when I am not.
If I like anyone more than just a platonic friend, I am pretty open about telling them that, directly.
If I don't say it - don't assume more than I actually say. I have this thing called, emotional maturity.

@PhoenixSerenity huh, so that explains all the problems I have had all these years. Fortunately for me, in a stroke of incredible luck that I would never be able to replicate if I had to do my life over again, I met someone who eventually agreed to marry me, so I don’t have to worry about this quite as much as when I was younger.

Thanks again, looking forward to getting started!

I’ve seen Paperlike recommended before, often wondered about trying it as I do a lot of notes but find the bare iPad screen and pencil a bit slidey.

in reply to The Hat Fox

@thehatfox Absolutely! I've been using the Paperlike for years now, and I prefer the matte screen for both art and glare reduction.

Recently decided I wanted even more friction for drawing, so I bought some "MJKOR Soft Paperfeel Damping Tips" and have really liked it for the past couple weeks. I also tried a silicone cover for the Pencil tip, but it reduced the precision, which ruled it out for me.

Curious to hear your experiences, if you go for it 😀

When I discover a cool open source project: 😀

When I see the web site has a link to the project’s Twitter account: 😢

in reply to Pete Prodoehl 🍕

Is the twitter account still active? I know plenty of projects that had accounts, still have the link the website, but haven't posted since API access died.
in reply to AMS

@AMS It might be worth checking on that and then getting in touch with the project about remove the link and/or deactivating the account.

“It’s World Day Against Cyber Censorship, a great occasion to remind ourselves of the early optimism surrounding the internet. Once envisioned as a force for global connection and free-flowing information, the internet has instead (d)evolved into a place where access to knowledge and privacy are increasingly under threat. Big Tech has monopolized its infrastructure, and governments all over the world are too eager to capitalize.”

You forgot that in Montréal we also get oraanges/mandrins from Morocco !!!!

Used to be a 747 back in late 1990s now only a 787. But there is still the nonstop that brings cargo (and passengers).

@jfmezei Does the USA even produce mandarines or clementines? 🤔

I’ll add the Moroccan oranges. 😁
Thanks!

finding out that human fall flat, a game that’s been in the back of my mind but not as this like… ground-breaking game, sold 55 million units genuinely floored me

scott the woz mentioned it off-handedly in a video and i was just like… surely this is just one of his jokes right

it wasn’t

he’s dead serious

in reply to Ibly 🏳️‍⚧️

name me someone who's a fan of human fall flat

that's right they don't exist

so how the fuck did it sell more than most indie games ever

motherfucking it outsold balatro by 10 times

who are the people who bought human fall flat, i need to study them

in reply to Ibly 🏳️‍⚧️

genuinely, I think like 70% of human fall flat sales were people who bought it on console to play with friends like, a total of 3 times, got through 4 levels and then quit. I know thats what happened with my friend group, and we played like 6-8 people once, and none of us have touched it in like 3 years.

I need a new non-US produced show to watch to let me think about things that aren't US-related.

The Story of Pearl Girl was nearly perfect but I've finished it. And there's only so many times I can watch Who Rules the World and Once Upon a Time on Lingjang Mountain and Qi Refining for 3000 Years.

in reply to Michael T. Bacon, Ph.D.

Blood and Water, Netflix. Filmed in Cape Town, a taste of how hard African drama goes. Arnold Vosloo's Ludik is filmed in Joburg or Pretoria, but similar turn-it-up-to-11 bad guys.

This simple math puzzle has lingered in my mind over a decade because it has such a surprising answer. How would you solve it and explain the result?

> In a class of 500 students, 99% are right-handed. How many right-handers should leave the class to make it 98%?

You can check my blog for the [solution and an intuitive explanation](bshankar.pages.dev/simple-math…).

@pluralistic : "Trump won office in part by insisting that America's institutions were not fit for purpose. He wasn't lying about that (for a change). The thing he was lying about was his desire to fix them. Trump doesn't want honest refs – he wants *no* refs. To defeat Trumpism, we need to stop pretending that our institutions are just fine – we need to confront their failings head on and articulate a plan to fix them"

Play the right game; keep playing it to the end.

Everyone talks about how bad our administrative state is, I don’t see it. Everything could probably use some tweaking or “improvements” and that’s what the IG’s are for. That’s what they did! Civil servants are awesome and in every group there are some, shall we say lazy people, but not corrupt or trying to take the system down like the muskrat is so that he can sell it and our public lands to tfg’s own companies and broligarchs.
