I think California and Canada should make a new country of 80 million people called Canafornia, which had a booming film industry, free healthcare, no trade wars, and a sane president.

All in favor say aye.

Finally California can have a proper English king, Charles von Hannover.

Aye. Only, include western Oregon and Washington - lots of tech people in Portland and Seattle that are tired of supporting our southern states!

Take the whole West Coast - we come as a package deal.

A lot of money in America flows into both Democrats and Republicans to keep their healthcare system privatized and awful. I don't think Canada needs that kind of burden inflicted on us.
in reply to Randahl Fink

Can we include Washington and Oregon in this new country?
Asking for a friend ... 🤔 😉 😜
in reply to Randahl Fink

hell no and it's not funny.

That would be a way to stuff in tons of Republicans, gun nuts, religious fanatics, and techbros into Canada.

Americans, solve your own problems and stay away from us.

I was already angling for Canada annexation of Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota. Heck, I really just want them to leapfrog & marry Illinois, but Midwestern etiquette says invite the family. Notice Indiana did not make the list here. I don't have a name for the territory though. Canasota?

@tanavit there is no framework for it in the constitution, but of course that is not the same as the US remaining a union of 50 states forever.

I agree with a lot of what you write but not this time - a very strong Nay from me! Canada does share the West Coast with California but there are strong differences between us. Yes, there are also similarities but the differences outweigh them.

only if there are no automatic weapons or publicly carried handguns and the new country retains the parliamentary system, which is better at stymying demagogues than the congressional system turns out to be. Washington and Oregon can join if they can deal with their small militia problem. We can adopt the Euro as the currency. And we need a bullet train, stat.
in reply to Randahl Fink

You can't do that without going through us in Oregon! (PLEASE go through us in Oregon! Take us with you!)

@revndm Thank you for teaching me something I did not know. Have you kept the baguette baking and the exquisite wine making from the times of French influence? 😀
in reply to Randahl Fink

in reply to Randahl Fink

Friendly independant neightbour? Sure! Same country? No thanks. 😀

Or California and Canada could join in the fight against Trump and Putin and autocracy and save our nations and humanity for at least another few decades to come fellow citizen Randahl Fink.

The alternative is British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California. It’s called Cascadia.

As long as AZ and NM provide contiguity, that opens up the CO option
in reply to Randahl Fink

How about Cannectifornia? We Nutmeggers are an easygoing people, and Canada and California would get some great ports on Long Island Sound.
