Forests capture more carbon however - and produce a cooler environment through their shade and high levels of evapotranspiration.

Some of the motivation for the research here is probably the recognition that many of the "reforestation" projects which have been attempted were ill-advised... with species not suited to the locations where they were planted, etc.
