my favorite is apps that offer webauthn features on their mobile app, but desktop doesn't offer 2FA? Da fuq? Do they have an actual fucking potato doing their threat modeling?
@masek@infosec.exchange I have a strange email, too. Only two persons have an account on that server. Luckily that was never an issue for Valve. Only Tonline required me to send an email and ask for an manual unblock of my servers IP to be able to send mails to them. @SecurityWriter@infosec.exchange
You can't say meaningful things to bureacracy, even worse to bureacracy created for people control. BTW even my Steam account dates back to portal creation, λ2
@draeath HL1 was already a game changer for me. I started playing FPS when Doom was on a set of 1.44M floppy disks, and its pseudo-3D gameplay was real magic, running on an i286 below 20MHz clock. HL brought a real, movie like, story, in 3D gaming. That was amazing, and it still is, if you look beyond the now pixelated screens. The only other game that brought me adrenaline, even when standing still, is HL:Alyx, played in VR. That leaves speechless.
I think Newgrounds has a "if your account is more than 10 years old then you are clearly over 18" somewhere in their age verification or at least they did when they first started doing it.
@thomasfuchs Only 18 for me, but you can change what badge your profile features. Mine has the "Steam Hardware Beta Candidate" to remind me of that time Gaben rug-pulled me.
Interesting because apparently you can't report a game featured on Steam any more. This one promotes incest. I'm referring the DLC of the latest Street Fighter, which received some criticism yesterday because it features a character engaged in incest. To further make this known, the company is Capcom. There has been backlash about this, but Capcom kinda went "hehehe."
considering my name, address, and SS number have all been leaked at least 3 times now I don't think having a credit card even proves you know someone with a credit card anymore.
The kids at school are impressed that my daughters Steam account has well over 200 games. (Thanks, HumbleBundle!) Okay, it's my account, but she plays games on it more than I do!
Being a security dick myself, I hate such organisations' "we did everything we could, even documented it" approach. Until a friend of mine (a security expert! sigh!) issued a policy analysis to our banking regulator some years back, we could get single use, limited amount CC numbers from our banks, which would have been a perfect solution for this and similar cases 🙁(((
One day, in 2024, a friend of mine sent me a Twitter link, I opened it and Twitter asked for my age. I had a Twitter account and my real birthday on my profile (and balloons), but they asked anyway. I was on my mobile, on a rush to access the tweet, but you only could wrote the date going back month by month (44 x 12 clics). So I just went back to the first date for a 18 yo person. And then... Twitter calculated that I was a minor @Illuminatus
when opened my account (around 6 yo) and they asked for and id from my legal tutor. I didn't want to arguee with IA, so they delete my account (and I didn't care) 🤷 @Illuminatus @SecurityWriter
The other day, Amazon—where I’ve had an account for many years and have always used the same identity—asked me to provide a photo of my ID and a facial scan under the pretext of combating fraud. I filed a complaint with the @cnil .
My age verification should be a picture of the complete set of Windows 95 install discs that are still sitting in my closet. And if that isn't sufficient, I'll go pick up a box of my old floppy disk DOS games from my parents house.
I wonder if these so-called age verification systems take into account the fact that a parent can open a credit account, including a card, for their child.

The support told me to use something like gmail. My email address is older than Valve and Google..

in reply to Security Writer • • •That account is 23 years old, what if it was just passed on to you from someone else?
So what if I go through the age verification and then pass my account on to someone else?

You lose access to certain games, or the whole account?

Unknown parent • • •@yetzt I mean, I am an old fart. That’s a given.
BUT what’s the alternative?
All the teenage gamers in my family are avid desktop users.
Like I have a Steam Deck and a laptop, but I wouldn’t really want to use either for playing something on TV from my sofa or bed.
