Breaking hearts in Quakertown, Pennsylvania πŸ’”

@benroyce @ellaw that's the problem I was trying to describe - it's not entirely clear that the Democrats are against the police who are misbehaving in the OP. From the context it appears this account is against it, but the Dems often increase police funding and support police after events like this. It's not 100% clear whether Dems as a group sympathize with the police or the protesters more.

could you please tell me in a way i can understand, what the value of criticizing the dems is as the GOP does {gestures broadly}?

so the GOP does unprecedented evil shit. and your words are "so what's wrong with the democrats is..."

i completely don't understand you

what is the value of that behavior in your mind

the dems *fucking suck*. 100% agreed

but we got people saying they prefer to drown

because their rescue boat is used to kill dolphins

@benroyce @ellaw to be clear: I'm criticizing the cops.
The hashtags about blue were initially confusing to me, because 'Back the Blue', 'Thin Blue Line' etc rhetoric.
I'm not sure what point involving the Democrats in this post, or the original post, has except to further confuse the two.
There's no reason to bring the Democrats into this AFAIK
in reply to Ben Royce πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©

@benroyce @ellaw I'm referring to this part of the OP and have been from the beginning "#BlueCrew #ProudBlue #JusticeMatters". For me those could equally apply to someone defending the cops or someone defending Democrats. It's weird.
The username of the account also sounds kinda right wing. I commented about the weirdness and lack of clarity.
And yes, also I may have been drunk during at least some part of the conversation, I was enjoying a Saturday night when I started seeing the aggressive replies and don't feel like this is a conversation that's particularly productive sober or not. You have convinced me to like Democrats less though, so that's a thing.

@benroyce
I feel like we encountered each other before and it ended up the same way - with me having more fact based reasons to not like the Dems because you attempt to support or defend them in illogical ways.
I've attached more details on why I think it's a better idea to say "this is bad, youth protesting is good and the police are being bad" instead of bringing the Dems into the conversation if we want to stop stuff like what was described in the OP from happening again. These are 2 of my first Google results from actual Democratic officials in Pennsylvania about police funding.

@benroyce
Again, no. Check user name and profile picture or the content of my posts. I'm spending my time criticizing the various tentacles of the police state right now. I'm very bad at hiding anything and don't really try very much.
But like, when arguing I go to facts that support my argument and share them, so every time we interact I end up looking at ways the Dems suck - it's actually the most frequent time I am looking in that direction. Perhaps you should not try to defend them in ways that highlight their biggest vulnerabilities and flaws? If this is your pro-Dem strategy you have not learned much about communication in the modern era.

@benroyce
Yes, and if you think fascism is okay if someone on your side is doing it, you are also a fascist.
Speaking of agents provacateur, have you noticed how your way of addressing my initial comment addressed to a third party is kind of a set of leading questions? And the most logical way I can defend myself at this point would be to demonstrate all of the ways the Dems are tied up in the expansion of the police state.
If your goal is to harden my position and get more anti-Democrat materials onto the Internet, you're going about it perfectly. If your goal is anything else, you're kind of failing.

@benroyce
Dude, you haven't been paying attention at all. Definitely to me in this thread and maybe to the world around you at all.

I don't support MAGA. I don't support the extension of the police state by any party.

I think you are alienating potential allies with aggressive and over the top attacks, and you're at least as likely to be an agent provacateur attempting to make people dislike Dems as I am based on this thread.

Did you read the blog post I linked or were you too busy hating? Cuz like I went from 'this is bad branding & Dems should think about it' to 'I don't want to be affiliated in any way with any team you Ben Royce support' over the course of this discussion.

Hey maybe you are representing the Dems very accurately and you think this is how you change hearts and minds... I hope something eventually gets through to you, but if this hasn't worked I'm done trying to reach you and teach you.

Goodbye, peace out, and may love eventually enter your heart.

@thesquirrelfish @ellaw
so, for the 4th time, i think the dems suck

all i get from you is that you have some sort of cognitive incoherency issue

so i don't really give a shit what you think of me, i certainly don't care what you think about the dems, because i don't care about them, and i'm still weirded out by your clumsy attempt to deny how your bullshit only supports MAGA

in reply to abolition now

@thesquirrelfish @benroyce @ellaw "It's not 100% clear..." Well, it IS 100% clear that the Republicans are masks-off fascists, so that makes the math pretty easy. You reduce harm by voting for the group with the lower chance of being Nazis. Then next election you do the same. Repeat until there aren't fascists on the ballot any more.
in reply to Lighthouse Dann

fuck the united states but tiananmen square and {gestures broadly at the totalitarian cruelty of north korea} proves that your take is quite absurd

what i'm saying is we can oppose the fascism in the usa without letting the fascism in other countries off the hook

a principled stand would be to oppose china, north korea, and the usa, all at the same time

@benroyce I wasn't agreeing with or siding with China or North Korea.The point of the comment was that even in countries like those the people are willing and actually try to oust a Dictator leader.
I never said if they win or not.
I didn't say anything about my even caring about those countries.

The comment was pointing out that the American people are doing little to save their democracy and, "any other country, "even" North Korea and China, would fight for their rights.

"The point of the comment was that even in countries like those the people are willing and actually try to oust a Dictator leader."

North Korea?!

"The comment was pointing out that the American people are doing little to save their democracy"

they absolutely can do more. 100% agreed

some of these entitled assholes you can't even get to vote, nevermind strike or protest

@LukefromDC
i agree. you have the moral and logical stand

however, there's plenty of people in the cemetery who had the moral and logical stand

all i am saying is that we need to fight back smart. and certainly in the heat of the situation we can't magically think up the ideal response. so a kick in the head is appropriate, according to me, and you

just be aware what that means in the minds of the brownshirts

in reply to TheZorse

no it should not

this is anodyne content that anyone on social media sees all the time

your instinct here is to censor police brutality, which only allows police brutality to occur unseen. your instinct is helping police brutality, unintentionally

if this were gore? i would 100% agree with you

but i disagree with you here on *this particular* content because people need to see

This entry was edited (2 days ago)
in reply to TheZorse

@TheZorse
well then respect us in the usa who are going through this trauma, who need examples of police brutality broadcast as far as can be seen to help fight it

if you don't want to see it you can block or unfollow

but what you can't do is gatekeep on our abuse for the sake of your need for an antiseptic timeline

if it was gore or pornography, you could. but it isn't, so you can't

all you are doing is helping police brutality by hiding it. you are in the wrong here

The best assistance you can provide in a case like this is to hit that 'chief' really hard on his throat. He will be choking and probably need emergency 1st aid, but he won't do this again any time soon.

Here is the news report about the incident.

Looks like the guy was the local police chief, but not in uniform, and he gets clobbered by the kids after he choke holds the girl. There are also other men involved.

"Although it’s unclear from public videos whether there were one or multiple men in tan shirts clashing with teens, the student said McElree was the only one he saw wearing tan, and that he was the one photographed putting a freshman girl in a chokehold."

"Videos circulating online offer a fragmented glimpse of the confrontation. In one clip, a man is seen grabbing a teenage girl and placing her in a chokehold. A male student rushes in and strikes the man, after which police officers move in and take the student into custody. Other footage shows protest signs scattered across the sidewalk, speckled with blood, and a teenage girl in handcuffs with blood visible along the side of her face."
