Remember, if you screw up your woodworking, it's not a mistake.

It's "Rustic Charm"!

i love the aesthetic but I have a suspicion that it would wind up annoying me more than the tinnitus I've had in my left ear for nearly a decade.

you have cats *AND* that bookshelf?

"a bold move, Cotton. let's see how that plays out..." 😁

in reply to CatSalad🐈🥗 (D.Burch)

You seem to be missing the classic 1972 book, "Spirit levels - a practical guide" ...
in reply to CatSalad🐈🥗 (D.Burch)

accommodates a variety of sizes of books, books are clearly visible and easily accessible.
I'll give it 4 out of 5 with point lost for having a shelf that looks too small for books
in reply to CatSalad🐈🥗 (D.Burch)

I give it 1 star and a boost, but only because Mastodon only has 1 star as an option.
in reply to Andy Li

@onthewings Lol, you have to love the commitment to the bit on that.

I have to say, I have an appreciation for the sort of place that trusts people so much it would put things outside like that, trusting people to do the right thing. Good on them. I bet they're good people.

I wish it were otherwise, but 0/10, it evokes more anger / frustration than just seeing piles of books

I am tempted to reply somewhat in the spirit of James Thurber's pet advice column.

If I ever wanted SO to smother me in my sleep, I’d install a bookshelf like this. I’d enjoy it for a day, at least.
in reply to CatSalad🐈🥗 (D.Burch)

I am cringing for the books that are having their bindings ruined by having to sit at an angle relative to the shelf.

therapist: what's really bothering you?

I guess... uhm... all that matters is if it, uh, works, and I guess, uh... it technically does...

My CDO (OCD in alphabetical order) just had a kernel panic from merely looking at this photo.

For real though: awesome job.

When I scroll the image up and down, it looks like the books move back and forth. I think if that was in my house, I would be compelled to lower and raise my head to convince and then convince myself the books were moving. I don’t know if my psychological equilibrium would hold. It would definitely take all my practice with cognitive behavioral therapy to hold it together. I hope you continue to enjoy it though. The world is a many-varied place.
in reply to WilliamLMiller

@williamlmiller Oh, I could put a small sensor on it to randomly make book sliding noises when nearby motion is detected!
in reply to CatSalad🐈🥗 (D.Burch)

On any other day I would just “*znort*” and move on.
Visual processing just …”Can’t” today. Be glad I’m possibly the only Migraineur who does social media during attack phase…this hit my eyeballs during “peaking”.

Also: the image hints at a possible 4th physical dimension

in reply to Medea Vanamonde

@MedeaVanamode @farah What makes it even ~worse~ better is if you look at the shadows, you will notice there's a gap between the wall. 😁
in reply to CatSalad🐈🥗 (D.Burch)

ok I thought this didn't bother me, but every time it shows up in my feed I shudder a bit haha
in reply to CatSalad🐈🥗 (D.Burch)

If I walked into someone's house and this was on the wall, I would pick up the closest glass objet d'art, dash it to the floor, corner-kick it into the wall if it didn't break at first, and then leave, stealing the host's hat as I went.

I am good at parties.

in reply to CatSalad🐈🥗 (D.Burch)

9 out of 10. One point is deducted because there is still open space for more books. :breathe:

first class #shelfie if ever I saw one. Can't make out if it's got Pratchett's Discworld on them which would be anyway a big improvement but I love it. Couldn't rate a household badly which has bookshelves in them anyway ❤️
in reply to CatSalad🐈🥗 (D.Burch)

A solid B+ (too much spine twisting for me), but have you made the book end game nearly impossible?
in reply to CatSalad🐈🥗 (D.Burch)

@briankrebs "Tell me you don’t actually read the books in your house without telling me you don’t read."
