Black tea, honey, lemon, any space left in the cup is filled with smokey whiskey
If it get a cold it just immediately takes up residence in my throat and my voice goes - even if this doesn't actually work medically a half a mug of whiskey makes it much cozier to nuzzle into a blanket for the day
I have found that vitamin C helps me prevent colds but does not, in my case, help get rid of a cold. Colds are viral, not bacterial, so treatment is dubious. Typically we can only treat the symptoms and let the cold run its course. I had a pediatrician when I was a child that liked to quote 'A cold untreated will last about a week, if you treat them they only last around seven days.' That is the norm for me in any case.
Though certain things may make you feel a lot more comfortable. Of all the over the counter medications I have found nothing is more effective, for me, than Alka-Seltzer plus cold medication. It is so effective I rarely even notice I have a cold while taking it. Be warned that I have experienced moodiness while taking it. I will typically take NyQuil during my sleeping period (which is not at night) and Alka-Seltzer plus during my waking period. NyQuil makes a ton of products these days, make sure the one you choose is actually for colds/ flues.

I buy the store brand of where I am shopping for them. They have always worked just as well as the name brand for me.
A note regarding honey. It is sugar, plain and simple. It has no medicinal value though it will spike your dopamine (as all carbohydrates do) which can make you feel better though it will have other side effects as well. Alcohol, of course, is humanities old fall back when treating symptoms. It is not the best way to treat the symptoms in my opinion. Not that I have never had a hot toddy and felt better for it. It is just not sustainable in my lifestyle 😉.
Commercial Honey we have in the shops here are indeed just added sugar , Best I had was a Cultivator that sold Eucalyptus Honey with the crumb in it.
No, honey is sugar, whether sucrose or high fructose corn syrup (which is more likely) is added or not. Honey is mainly fructose and glucose. Fructose is extremely bad for those with a fatty liver, people like me who are overweight, should avoid all fructose. As fructose is treated differently in your body than any other carbohydrate. It is processed directly by the liver and stored directly as fat around the liver. Which if you did not already have a fatty liver would not necessarily be a negative thing.
note: For those that do not have a fatty liver fructose is still not the best carbohydrate choice. Though, it would be advisable to get any fructose you did eat from fruit and not from high fructose corn syrup (mainly used in beverages like soda pops).
Any person that is obese, even level one (like me), has a fatty liver. That can be taken for granted. Fatty liver really surprises people when they are thin. Though with the large intake of fructose based sweeteners these days it is becoming more and more common. Keep in mind that in the past fruits were not available year round. They were only available for a short season. Which also helped as when you combine fats and sugars in your diet you invoke the Randall Cycle which will pack on the fat. Which is a good thing if you are about to go through the winter famine our ancestors went through as hunter gatherers.
