The scammer usually uses multiple handles and URLs and identities, so general warnings about this type of scam tend to be more effective.

in reply to Book • • •They are trying to con people into giving their credit card details as a form of verification. Then they can drain the card of money.
The reason they're doing this is because so many sites are actually asking for this, for example Apple is now demanding all its UK users give credit card details to verify their age. This gives scammers a really good cover to do scams.
Fediverse platforms don't do this, but not everyone realises this.
