Confused by Israeli hasbara about how far back the term "Palestine" goes in history?

Herodotus wasn't confused

In the 5th Century BCE, he identified Palestine as the land between Phoenicia & Egypt.

And the term* was in play way back in the 2nd millennium BCE.

Mouin Rabbani demolishes the hasbara (starts at 49 min in):

The book looks back 4000 years.

P. 24: The "Israelites... appeared in Assyrian inscriptions... in the 9th - 8th centuries BC . For Maimonides, however , the ancient ' Israelites ' were not a race or an ethnicity – but a community of ..."

@jaycee

Same here, I've had to make a little list...

Interesting tidbit here:

1200-1001 BCE: "During the Iron Age I period (12th-11th C BCE), the Israelite religion branched out from the Canaanite religion & formed Yahwism."

Judaism evolved later.

I found this document from 1940 that my grandfather brought back from the war. Palestine was real.

1940 - leaflet distributed to Australian 2nd AIF soldiers serving in Palestine informing them of local customs and people.

"Palestine does not belong to us, it belongs to the Arabs and Jews, both of whose histories date long before ours, whose respective religions are two of the oldest in the world. As you know, there has in the past been trouble between these two races, who are now, however, united in the same cause as you, namely, to win this war."

Zionism was invented in the 1800s in Europe but the guy most responsible for its mobilization is Theodor Herzl, of that same era. Since participants in intercontinental trade took place in and around the Levant, of course it's always been real estate that was highly coveted. The sons of Abraham have routinely ignored the Thou Shalt Not Covet clause of their Commandments.

My reading says Zionism goes back further than that.

Plus, you may know there is no historical-archeological evidence for an Abraham figure....

If Zionism goes back further, it's not by much. It's still a European invention that didn't get launched as a movement until it was by Herzl.
