Something that makes fascism a particularly pernicious form of authoritarianism is that it doesn’t just need the population crushed and subservient; it needs to •keep actively destroying• whole subsets of the population in order to stay alive.
Fascism is a fire. Its fuel is the othering of minority groups; its oxygen is fear. It will keep finding — creating, if necessary — more and more “others,” without limit. Unless you cut off that oxygen or that fuel, it will keep on burning until there’s nobody left.

I know it's late but that is great! I have a very long time friend who transitioned decades ago. I was thankful she's Dutch. I had no idea that Netherlands has changed (it sounds like it). So sad, the bigotry. I once asked her about it and she told me she had resisted until she was DESPERATE. Torturing is the right word yes.

@dicenbuttons I don't think many people thought it through to the Russian asset point. I think it was mostly sexism, then racism (both toward Harris and the whole "immigrant" thing), and then gullibility to propaganda and misinformation.
I'm fine with Americans as people. Hell I'm even related to some of them. But if anyone supports the idea that the US should annex us, they can expect big trouble in response.
