@tjhexf is seriously the greatest. Like I cannot overstate how wonderful and amazing it is. Like, kitty absolutely saved my life in more ways than one this past week. I... like, the words simply do not exist in any language to say how grateful I am that she exists, and that it's part of my life, and that kitty loves me so so so fucking much. Like,,, I feel more cared about and more deeply loved than I've ever felt in my whole life. Like seriously, this creature is everything. I just love her so much, I don't know what I'd do without her.

As of now, this spreadsheet shows who seemingly stands where on the cloture vote. Call your Democratic Senator.
If a NO, thank them and tell them to stick to their position.
If a YES, tell them you want them to rethink and vote NO.
IF undecided, tell them NOW is the time to FIGHT and urge them to vote NO.

Even as more Democratic Senators have committed to voting NO on the Republican continuing resolution, Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has said he plans to vote yes. This is a terrible choice, an abdication of his responsibilities to the Constitution, the country, and to those fighting to save democracy and rule of law in the U.S. I sent a comment via Schumer’s contact page, urging him to reverse his decision. You can too at schumer.senate.gov/contact/mes…. Feel free to use mine as a script.

Endymion Ride View 2025 Part 1

Highlights of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Endymion Parade from the perspective of a rider at the top of float number 16, third of three sections. The parade is a night parade and the float is lit with flashing lights and brightly decorated. On two levels, costumed riders toss "throws" - toys, beads, and flashing-lighted collectables to the yelling people in the crowd on both sides of the float.

⚜️ My video of riding on an #EndymionParade float, Part 1. < 6 minutes, plays in the post.

More on my Peertube account.

This wouldn’t be happening right now if y’all would’ve just voted for the black lady.

*sighs* I used Google Calculator and this weird pair of symbols appears in the upper left. What the fuck is this. It's drawing little animated sparkles around it so I'm afraid it's going to be some kind of "AI".
in reply to Cassandrich

@dalias @multisn8 in this ONE CASE, it was a one-day gag and would have otherwise been very missable so i GUESS i can forgive it
in reply to Cassandrich

for AI junk you have a point - but in anything you'll get people asking you to add a thing they really want because they didn't see the big red "CLICK HERE FOR THE THING YOU WANT" button. or you just worked hard on something really useful and everyone kept doing things the harder way because they didn't notice you added a better way

You know what… I wonder if any of this has to do with Nova LFS fires in Québec City…

in reply to Edwin G.

@EdwinG There is on 44 series bus on the 36. Was under impression that the 36 only had 3 buses, but this shows there are a lot more buses allocated to the route (but it could also be buses that do shisfts and not necessarily on the road all at same time).
in reply to Jean-Francois Mezei

@jfmezei Tip: You can actually tap on the bus inventory number. If it is running, there will be multiple links at the bottom, including two indicating where it is.

I watched "Max Headroom" when it was originally airing back in '87 and this brief exchange immediately stuck with me. And it's something that I've tried to keep top of mind every time I'm watching/reading/hearing the news. I suspect if more people understood this, it would go a LONG way towards increasing media literacy.

It started with joking about it.

Today, the US President told his military to make plans to invade, by force, Panama.

He announced his plans to annex Greenland - in front of the NATO head.

He said the only way out for Canada was to become part of the U.S.

This is not a joke.
War is coming.

as an american I apologize to the rest of the world,

and also, we don't want this either! (help?)

#USpol

in reply to Tod Maffin 🇨🇦

the US may try to steamroll Canada but as the US has found in every war it has lost since the end off WWII (all of them) 1) you need boots on the ground & 2) a country that wants the US

Canada doesn’t want to be the 51st state. It is stupid to think we would

So it would start an ugly war of hit and run! Where the foes look just like the US. Where the foes can wander across the longest undefended border in the world and bring the fight to US soil.

in reply to SaanichGuy 🇨🇦🇨🇦

@SaanichGuy It's going to start with disinformation and a US sponsored "grassroots" campaign to drum-up support with Canadian citizens who are already right-leaning (if not already "maple magats"), boots on ground would only happen after public opinion has "in theory" been swayed far enough and the "overton window" has shifted.

The morning after the big winds from the ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, our regular King Parrots turned up for a rest and some seed in the relatively dry veranda.
They definitely looked a bit worse for wear, but they got a good feed and some shelter for a while.

To my American friends,

I love you dearly, but if you joke about the annexation of Canada like it's not deadly fucking serious, I have no issue with dropping your ass. That Damn Frank got a block. I have a feeling that he won't be the last.

This is an invasion we're talking about. An unlawful imposition of one country's will against another.

If you think we'll lie back and just take it, you don't know anything about us.

I like to think that I choose my friends carefully. I call you friends because you are compassionate and strive for kindness and acceptance. I hope y'all don't let me down.

Linux Is Best reshared this.

in reply to Jordi (Flopsome Opossum)

I don't think he's joking at all.

I feel like we're occupied by a foreign power here.

I believe most of us here in the states are appalled by this talk and do not support it.

If the US tries to annex Canada without your consent, I expect you to do what any country would do in that situation.

in reply to Jordi (Flopsome Opossum)

If the US invades neighbors, there will be a lot of us that form an armed resistance and work behind the lines to fight against it until the country is restored to normalcy or it is defeated.

Just ate there Monday and had a Bloomin Onion 😅 . I know it's not ideal, but I grew up in the part of the country where Outback, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc., were "nice restaurants" and I still enjoy them sometimes even though I've since had the privilege of dining at much nicer.
in reply to Scott Williams 🐧

@vwbusguy

Yeah, I was 25 years old when I learned that Olive Garden is not actually a super fancy restaurant people only go to on special occasions.

Dear Democrats-

May I suggest making a small, but significant change to your well meaning rallying cry for this new era in our country…

When they go low, kick them in the teeth.

The underrepresentation of men in women-dominated professions is rarely discussed. Lack of interest is assumed, but societal barriers discourage men from pursuing such roles. New study finds men in childcare stereotyped as less warm, moral & competent than women. psypost.org/men-in-childcare-a…

@schumer.senate.gov If you vote for cloture you are a stain on this country’s history that will never go away. You are willingly passing power to a tyrant in waiting, and you are a disgrace to every oath of office any senator has ever sworn. Your legacy will be one of cowardice and contempt.

Several years ago we prepared a comprehensive assessment for California of the risks of fracking for #water resources, concluding it wasn't the amount of water needed but the massive threat to groundwater from contamination.
Texas is proving the point. Excellent article here.

TWISTED SISTER
Come Out And Play
1985 Canada pressing

Truly a reprehensibly BAD album, & honestly what killed their career.
An utter abomination.

So why do I own it?
Because regardless of it’s terror, this was the 1st album I ever bought with my own money.
A cassette copy, from the Grafton Flea Market, age 9, for .25 cents.
It’s solely for sentimental purposes.

Every ten years, I put it on thinking it’s not that bad.
Spoiler alert:
It ABSOLUTELY is.

in reply to The Vinyl Ape 🦧

I was a big fan of theirs in the Stay Hungry era - saw them on tour, even - so I bought this when it came out.

I *hated* Leader of the Pack with the heat of a thousand suns. Partly because it was just bad, but also because I detested that pre-British-invasion American rock sound, like the Shangri-Las.

I never heard from them again, and never went looking. I'm surprised they did more albums 😱

in reply to C.

@cazabon Stay Hungry is arguably THE album of that genre (meathead rock, cock rock, whatever you want to call it). It was so good.

And then, THIS came and cost them their whole career. Everything that followed was wretched and calcifying.

Whoever’s idea it was to cover that song and release it as the first single… it’s THEIR fault. They are the reason that band’s career got sunk.

There’s no better example of how you can sink your music career with one bad decision than TS.
