A Russian woman spoke out:
"I don't understand why I should expand my borders if my country is dying out, degrading. I have no doubt that my country's soldiers should not be on the territory of Syria, Georgia, Ukraine or other countries. I do not understand why my taxes are not spent on the development of my country, on improving the quality of life of my family, on building houses, roads, on opening schools, kindergartens and clinics.

@FediTips Heya! I wanted to drop a suggestion, if I may. On fedi.tips/how-do-i-verify-my-a… it might be worthwhile to add that Cloudflare may block a Mastodon instance from checking the page for a user's verification link. I ran into that issue myself and disabling the Cloudflare proxy/protection allowed me to verify my site :blobcat_engineer:

Ahhh, interesting, thanks for the info! 🙏

I've added this to the article, hopefully it helps others too.

Hey folks, I'm looking at something to replace the file syncing from Microsoft and Apple. NextCloud looks promising. Anyone have experience with #NextCloud or similar "run your own" cloud sync tools? My main use case is backing up photos and videos from my family's phones.

An excellent piece from Daniel Dale, demolishing Trump’s latest lie; that Canada has some of the highest tariffs in the world, a claim so patently false as to be absurd..cnn.com/2025/03/12/politics/fa… #Canada #cdnpoli #tariffs #USMCA #CUSMA

#PSA for you all: Going forward, expect glitches, outages, and other shenanigans from federal websites. I just pulled up usps.com to look at my informed delivery for the day, only to be greeted with the message that “this service is not available at this time.” I’ve seen other people posting about similar problems on other government websites. I fear we have now reached the time that the powers that be were wanting all along. They want people to not be served by the federal government and thus demand something different like, oh I don’t know, privatization. It’s just astounding to me how quickly it all happened and how little pushback there was. #USPS #GOPIsEvil #USPolitics

How in the world can this be grounds for an arrest? if we don’t defend the right to protest, how will we defend the freedom to teach & learn, the freedom to pursue research? If we just defend the speech or activities we like, on what basis do we resist authoritarianism?" This "prohibition" against anti-Semitism is anti-semitic.

You're going to want to read today's story. Gives you a better sense of the people who most closely surround Musk. Here's the lede:

At 49, Branden Spikes isn't just one of the oldest technologists who has been involved in Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). As the current director of information technology at X/Twitter and an early hire at PayPal, Zip2, Tesla and SpaceX, Spikes is also among Musk's most loyal employees. Here's a closer look at this trusted Musk lieutenant, whose Russian ex-wife was once married to Elon's cousin.

A man dared a hostess in Tokyo to a drinking game. She died several hours later. The story demonstrates how obscenely wealthy men use their power to take advantage of economically disadvantaged women for nothing but the sake of their own amusement.

I went down yet another Severance rabbit hole and now I'm even more obsessed. It's shocking how much I've missed and rewatching it with subtitles helped.

But what I'm learning from YouTube videos deep diving into the episodes, is there's so many theories out there and it's fun to learn about them =)

No spoilers but the latest video about the latest episode Sweet Vitriol from The Faceless Girl was eye opening for me, as it completely changed my perspective on the ending I thought was coming =)

youtube algorithm has given up, all my recommendations are now one of three things:
1: trash I will never click on that is sometimes downright insulting to have recommended to me in the first place
2: 90+ minute long "video essays" that I have less than zero interest in
3: videos I've already seen

If there are 10 people in a room, and each of those 10 people looked out for everyone else in the room, each person would have 9 people looking out for them.

But if each of the 10 people only looked out for themselves, each person would only have 1 person looking out for them.

Can't recall where I heard this, but it stuck with me.
