Astounding!! Finally you can see the cover of the anthology I've been working on for the past couple of years with co-editors @older and Karen Lord! "We Will Rise Again" is full of essays, interviews, and speculative stories about protest, social movements, and hopeful resistance -- all informed by the experiences of real-life movement leaders and community organizers.
in reply to Annalee Newitz 🍜

I am so proud and grateful to be part of the amazing group of folks who contributed to the anthology.

Hi, I’m Ellie.

I’ve jumped to Mastodon after realising (again) how toxic big tech is. Trump and Musk’s obsession with controlling social media sealed it—I miss when it was about connecting, not just a tool for the rich to twist public opinion.

I’ll post a little bit about politics (Carol Cadwalladr fan!) but also pretty pictures, my pet, and travel snaps. Looking forward to actual conversations—not just whatever the algorithm wants me to see.

absolutely! Hardly ever heard from real people on the huge platforms- Only pushed sales and click bait. Thankyou I've popped them a follow.

Feel free to ask if you want help with using this place! There is also lots of help on the website at fedi.tips (especially "quick start" at the top).

Went for a stupid walk for my stupid mental health today and

it actually helped.

So that’s nice.

@FediTips

Questions -
If I start a second Mastodon account, do I have the option that the muted word list transfers to the new account, or does it have to rebuilt from scratch?
- Same question, but regarding muted and blocked individual users?

in reply to Anonomouse13

You can't copy filters to other accounts.

However, you can copy mutes and blocks.

You can copy your follows, bookmarks, lists, mutes, blocks and domain blocks to any other account whenever you want using the CSV files that are usually used for transferring accounts.

If you look at the transfer guide and do steps 2 and 3, you can use these steps even if you're running two accounts at once instead of transferring accounts:

I am playing around with #Obsidian to see if I can use it in my workflow for blog writing on my website. I tried #Tangent really quickly but it just stays on a loading screen when creating a workspace?
in reply to Taylor Hadden

@taylorhadden hey. I would just like to say thanks to you guys for reaching out in here on the #Fediverse and offering a solution. I was able to get #Tangent to run using the solution provided in the issue tracker.

Hopefully you guys will be able to figure out the root cause of it for your future releases and such to get in more users 😉

I’m still not ready to do livestreaming. I’m far too tired, and need another night to rest. So I’m cancelling my livestream tonight that was scheduled from 7-9:00pm.

BUT--I’ll be trying something new tomorrow. A daytime livestream from 1-3:00pm. More info coming!

My sincerest apologies to all. I just need one more night to recharge my batteries. I’ll be refreshed tomorrow.

JFC the basic core of human society is that we look after each other, tens of thousands of years ago those of us out berry picking and hunting shared everything with the old, the injured and the young, not everyone can work to survive, so we share with them. it's like basic human 101. fucks sake. aargh

isn't there some million year old human skeleton with a healed broken leg, so they must have been cared for and loved and looked after even though they were no longer able to hunt or whatever
in reply to saraaaaargh

I seriously doubt our distant ancestors allowed one of their own to horde all the berries, take everyone elses berries, and then they all stood around going "wow what a genius" while starving to death

"Bring your whole self to work!"

Given that I exist in several universes, a goodly number of star systems, numerous continents, and at least two Waffle Houses, I'm not sure there's enough space at work for all of me. Or I should say, for all versions of me.

Maybe we could try time sharing this body.

in reply to Axel Rauschmayer

I remember that I missed parts of an extended discussion a while ago using mastodon's standard web UI and it looked like #PhanpySocial showed more (transitive) answers. But is it actually possible to solve this problem purely on the client side?
in reply to Heribert Schütz

Yes it is, you can already manually pull in all the public parts of a discussion by opening the thread's "original page" and then copy-pasting the URLs of all the replies into the search box on your instance. This is very tedious so no one does this, but there's nothing to stop a client or script or instance doing it automatically.

I am not a dev but AFAIK the main holdup has been how to do this efficiently without causing strain on instances.

just read about yet another tesla crash/fire resulting the passengers being trapped with doors that wont open. A $30 'life hammer' (thats a brand name but also the generic name) solves some of this - you can bust the window and cut the seatbelt in a few seconds.

Seriously, its one of those motoring accessories you can't afford not to have. The life you hammer might be your own.

in reply to Adam

I think I paid around $7 for something similar at a discount store. Though I am now wondering what became of it (I went without a car for 7+ years and now that I have a new vehicle, haven't put one of those in my newer vehicle). It also had a flashlight and a needle sort of thing (for popping a deployed airbag).

The government is pretty much shut down right now, asshole! I fail to see how a shutdown could make it any worse. And maybe it would get the #Dems to actually grow a collective spine and stop obeying in freaking advance.

I just finished A Pail of Air by Fritz Leiber over at Project Gutenberg. It's great post apocalyptic tale about earth thrown into a deep freeze after a rogue Star tears the planet from its orbit. There's not a lot of action but the world building is phenomenal. I'd love to read more stories set in this universe. #scifi #pulp #apocalypse #ProjectGutenberg

Some good news about #Mastodon, there has been a very significant bit of code added which will automatically fetch all the replies in a thread. This means everyone will be able to see a thread's whole conversation no matter which server they are on! 🥳

The code has just been "merged" which means it should become available in the next update to Mastodon, hopefully within the next few months.

(Those who want the technical details can see the Pull Request at github.com/mastodon/mastodon/p…)

in reply to Sven A. Schmidt

That’s fine and normal and I’ll be happy to wait until it shakes out. I think this is the correct direction. Partial reply threads one of the pain points of Fediverse discourse.
in reply to Dave Rahardja

Yeah, this is normal for all major new features. They test them on an experimental branch before they are actually released more widely.

Using the shell command in CAD software might seem like an easy way to hollow out a model for 3D printing, but it often leads to inconsistent wall thickness and print artifacts. This post explains why the shell command falls short and introduces a more precise manual modeling approach to achieve uniform, high-quality prints.

US voters:

Call your Senators ASAP and tell them:

- Do not allow the GOP budget to come up for a vote

- We are not fooled if you bring your own budget up first, knowing it will fail. Do NOT allow the Republican budget to pass. Period. Do NOT rescue them.

5/ More from Josh:

The point of this to temporarily confuse the issue so that Senate Ds can say they vote for their version while allowing the GOP version to pass. The critical point is that it's handing the GOP the 60 vote threshold for nothing.

Infuriating! I've made more Senate calls in the pat few weeks than at any time in my life.

Seems delusional to think that normal processes are still underway.
