There is an optional feature on Mastodon which lets you automatically delete your posts after a certain amount of time:
➡️ fedi.tips/deleting-posts-autom…
If you switch this on, your posts that are older than a certain number of weeks, months or years are automatically deleted by your server.
The setup process for autodelete also lets you choose types of post or specific posts not to delete.
(If you want to keep everything, just don't switch it on 🙂 )

Yesterday I figured I'd try setting up something I could use to work with my critique group. I was looking for collaborative editing, chat, etc. Nextcloud looked like a good candidate, so I gave it a go.
Well, Nextcloud is obviously designed to be an enterprise solution. That thing repeatedly hammered my poor little VPS into the ground on the simplest of operations. I took it out and restored Mattermost, which is great for chatting with a curated group and some other Slack-like tasks, but doesn't support collaborative editing.
The search continues.

Sometimes the question comes up if we have any DNS servers to point at. The answer is no, we only do authoritative DNS (for now anyways ).
There are multiple other projects that do recursive DNS in the EU or based out of the EU though, like
- quad9.net (@quad9dns)
- mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-h… (@mullvadnet)
- stats.ffmuc.net/d/tlvoghcZk/do… (@freifunkMUC)
- digitalcourage.de/support/zens… (website in German, @digitalcourage)
european-alternatives.eu/alter… also has some more

I just went down a bit of a rabbithole starting on YouTube, and I'm currently asking ChatGPT about the same thing. I use the same Google account to log into both. When YouTube starts recommending me more videos related to that, which inevitably it's about to, where is it getting that data from: itself or ChatGPT? 🤔
OpenAI can be selling all your data to advertising companies like Google to make some extra bucks. Especially when this data doesn't enhance chatgpt's competition.
I dunno if that's the case though.

Trump Signs Executive Order Making Official Language Of U.S. Remedial English

@Jennifer I Have never been proud or ashamed of an accident of birth. I did not chose nor have any influence in being America. Nationalism is just another form of prejudice.
I am proud of the fact that I voted against what is transpiring today in America. That I did everything I could do to avoid it. It is unfortunate that I failed; though I did what I could reasonably do.
If you also have done what you could then you have no reason to be embarrassed. You did the right thing. We are not responsible for the rash and irresponsible behavior of others. Even if we must live with their mistakes.
We can get through these four years together. Stay strong.
Take Care

Good day!
This is, literally, my view.
The place where I’m babysitting a handful of animals (Evie the Cat is here). Where my car battery died after 10-years.
I’ve setup collaborative hikes & my writing journal for March. Next, notes on the sequel to Deadly Stroll, which is Exhumed Reflection.
Be everwell.

So the good news is that it's Friday.
The bad news is that Doug Ford and his conservatives won another majority and will be in complete control for the next 4 years here in Ontario.
Cheap booze, weed shops on every corner.
A depleted public health and education system. Private care that only the wealthy have access to.
All while his buds get rich and the divide between the middle and upper class widens.
The people of Ontario are stupid. We get what we deserve.

especially since gnome seems to be insistent on further shooting itself in the foot pun not intended when it comes to customizability

That is what is so great about GNU/Linux, there are choices, you do not have to use what everyone else does.

I started using Raw Xserver with no Window Manager on One Monitor while using the other with a terminal until I learned how to nest Xserver. Then I along came Display Managers and we did not have to nest Xserver anymore to have graphics on both monitors.
My first WM (and it was considered a WM back then the concept of a DE did not exist yet) was XFCE and then I moved to KDE when it released in 1998. I checked out Gnome when it had a full release in 1999. I was not impressed. I liked all the bells and whistles Trolltech added with QT that was not available in gtk (which was initially designed for gimp). Later on I realized I

I liked all the bells and whistles Trolltech added with QT that was not available in gtk (which was initially designed for gimp). Later on I realized I did not ever use 95% of what KDE offered and Plastic was so heavy that going to Gnome just felt right. I have used Gnome ever sense. Not that I have not tried every DE/ WM that came along. I just never fond anything worth changing for. Keep in mind I still do 90% of my work on the CLI also so most of the time I am not using my DE in any case.
Though I am happy with Gnome I know lots of others have other use cases and work differently than I do and I am glad that GNU/Linux has a solution for all kinds of different users and that we do not have to use whatever gets thrown at us like with Mac OS X or Windows.
Gnome has actually removed most window decorations for a very long time now. It is the distros that turn them back on with their releases. Gnome can be infinitely tweaked with Gnome Tweaks and extensions. It is all up to the user what they want and if Gnome cannot furnish it then there are plenty of other DE to get the job done 😉.
