Between Gov's Pritzker and Newsom, we're starting to see some badly needed strong, aggressive blowback to Trump's illiterate fascism.

Pritzker came out fighting, Newsom came out mocking. The combo is effective as hell, but we need so much more, and we need actions to match the messaging.

in reply to Laffy

Don’t forget Governor Wes Moore of Maryland. He doesn’t seem to get as much publicity though.
in reply to Laffy

Literally seconds ago, I was thinking exactly that, in close to those words.

I'm not now, nor have I ever been, an American and I don't follow state politics closely, so I'm not prepared to comment on their jobs as governors or potential for the presidency, but Newsom's and Prizker's recent fights for American democracy and justice give me a modicum of hope for the US, hope that I have been rapidly losing.

@JoelKlebanoff Newsom for president, no thanks.

But yes. Maybe in the Cabinet.

But forget 2028 right now. Even 2026. We have to kill fascism first.

in reply to Laffy

Yeah, sorry. I wasn't clear. The main point I wanted to make is that their current, strong fights against Trumpian fascism and for democracy and justice give me an iota of hope. Their fights alone are probably not enough, but it's encouraging that they're coming out as strongly as they are now.

I introduced the point about not being able to comment on their governorships or possible presidencies only because I'm not prepared to or equipped to get into a discussion of that.

I have seen people go off on tangents strongly in that direction whenever people compliment Pritzker or, particularly, Newsom on their efforts in this fight. I wanted to head that off.

I look forward to seeing more blowback from Gov. Pritzker and Newsom... And then I hope to see the same blowback from just about every other responsible politician in the US...

We need Tim, Gavin and these guys on this 24/7 - love it πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Oof! The folks over at bsky are brutal… I also have no idea what the fat ankles comment is all about. Still, the message was strong and I approve.
in reply to UnclePJ

@UnclePJ The folks at bsky are brutal? You mean replies?

The fat ankles are about Trump's medical issue.

in reply to Laffy

Yes. They are calling for some pretty nasty outcomes for Trump. Pain and death and a lot of it.

Thanks for the info. While I try to stay abreast of the political climate, I’ve not been actively reading about his medical struggles. Felt a little out of the loop there…

in reply to UnclePJ

@UnclePJ I posted about it here.

in reply to Laffy

Oh! Thanks for that very well written information. πŸ˜πŸ€™
in reply to Laffy

If only Kamala Harris was Pres. Harris... We wouldn't have to deal with all this sh*t.
in reply to Laffy

While Youngkin's term is ending, soon, I don't have a lot of optimism that Spanberger is going to do anything "aggressive". I'm still voting for her, in a couple weeks, but I really wish I was voting for someone more interested in fighting back.
in reply to Laffy

This is interesting. A teaser for my local Wisconsin news station just reported that farmers are complaining that ICE raids are decimating their current work force and making it difficult to find replacements. Considering how many farms around here have/had huge Trump signs prominently posted along the roadside, I can only point, laugh and ask what they thought they were voting for.

@ nebula @ beach .city Spoken like a troll who has no idea what I "forgot" or didn't.

I've forgotten NOTHING and have said as much repeatedly on Bsky, where you don't read my posts.

You read what I decide to post here, so you speak out of ignorance.

2/ Not sure why praising strong voices speaking out against Trump means we automatically approve of everything that person has ever said or done.

And if you choose to reply to me about that, and you're rude, nasty, or uncivil, yes, you get called out and blocked.

in reply to Laffy

From their profile

"Cisphobic, heterophobic, anti-ally " "Don't ever fucking touch us we have claws "

yup an angry troll. block it.

in reply to SnowyCA

@SnowyCA While I am not going to defend that particular person, I have a lot of sympathy for trans folks who fear that the trans-hostile Newsom will ride this wave of mockery to the Democratic Party nomination. We would then have two candidates who are ok with this. But it was unfair of them to lump in Pritzker, who has spoken out forcefully against the idea that Democrats should abandon trans people to get elected.
in reply to Joe

@not2b @SnowyCA Yes, of course I have sympathy. That wasn't the issue at hand here though. They brought that up under a post about how the governors are fighting back.

If they wanted to post about trans-hostile issues re: politicians, then do it elsewhere, not under a productive post about fighting back.

in reply to Laffy

Here in Mass, we knew Healey was going to be a boring but effective administrator.

But not what we need right now. I'd love to see my government out there getting in Trump's face.

in reply to Laffy

the one problem with the action is the other side has gone so far down the brown-shirts road that it gets super easy to imagine a like, armed, response which effectively means civil war.

Not that I am saying that may not be necessary or justified at some point, but it is scary to consider how close that really is.

in reply to Chris AlemanyπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ

@chris That. Is something worrying me a lot. Remembering that a key reason for the second amendment was to defend against a tyrannical government, it seems to me that there are only two possible futures: a US civil war or a Trump government that scares people too much to start one.
in reply to Mastokarl πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦

@Mastokarl @chris It's not about being too scared to start one, it's about knowing you're WAY outgunned.

You really think people with guns would have a chance against the US military and Trump's private army??

No, physical war isn't going to work. There are other ways. Read Marc Elias, others on this

in reply to Laffy

As we see with the "legislative war" in Texas. I don't think it'll be the good guys starting a shooting one. But the good guys will have to finish it.

Don't forget Tim Walz & Bernie Sanders. Two of the best not-holding-back folks we've got here on the left!

They've both come out swinging, ready to fight back wherever & whenever needed!

in reply to Catherine is not complacent

@CatDragon @ginaintheburg For one, Catherine, he was given a leadership position for a reason... because he knows how to change minds, he knows how to stick to his guns relentlessly about the wealthy vs the rest of us, and tries his hardest to change that. He and AOC have been terrific rallying Americans against Trump.

I voted for him in the primary. I'd do it again. He stands for just about everything that is fair and just.

in reply to Laffy

I, too, voted for him in the primary.πŸ‘

Bernie is known as the Amendment King b/c he's smart, gets his programs & laws thru as amendments - esp known for programs for #vets. Also known for his successful bipartisanship. He was a popular & successful mayor of Burlington, VT. And Vermonters keep re-electing him to Congress because they know they can depend on him to strongly & reliably represent their needs & values in Congress & they've been happy with that representation.

in reply to Laffy

Yeah, too bad none of the reps in Congress or the Senate are ready to stand up like this and fight.

With the exception of AOC, Jasmine Crockett, Raskin and Bernie....

Nice to see our leadership like Schumer and Jefferies not doing jack shite but hey, I'm betting they are considering drafting their strongly worded letters as we speak

in reply to KB Sez

@kbsez They're doing some good things. Read @emptywheel about that.

However, they're communication skills are horrendous, and they appear weak.

But they've taken plenty of action. Congress can only do so much.
