This reminds me of how people say "your life flashes before your eyes when you die" and, somehow, never realize the implications of that being true. I can tell you from experience that your perception of time increases, to the effect that time is subjectively slowed to the point of absurdity when you get hit by a car, and I walked away from that one without any serious injury. I can imagine the very last exhale feeling as long as the entire lifetime of inhalation proceeding it. Again, everyone always says how your life flashes before your eyes when you die. I cannot rationally dismiss with complete certainty that ~31.5 years to date, as I remember it as of this exact moment, hasn't all just been my life flashing before my eyes. I cannot prove absolutely that I'm not remembering having typed this decades ago, that I'm not an old man having a heart attack, and that I won't be dead before I hit the floor.
I have been near enough to death to have been resuscitated. I have never experienced my life flashing before my eyes. I do not know that it cannot happen though I am fairly certain this is a phenomena introduced in works of fiction rather than a science.
If anyone knows of any genuine research into this I would love to see citations to the work.
