"Dear die-ary" - March 2nd, 2026
Another deathrock special in my mixcloud archives! The Phantoms book is so massive that there's easily material for another two-three hours there. But who's writing the book on the deathrock-revival post-Cinema Strange, and that whole Drop Dead movement? I'll give it another 10-20 years for my summons to materialize.
Another area of interest is the Portland/PNW region in connection with "g-beat", as it was called, more commonly known now as "dark punk"; the hardcore sound had become so generic that bands were crossing over into goth/post-punk territory. There's a lengthy article over at Souciant for the morbidly curious.
I don't live in the past. I try to map the "red threads" - where does the music come from, and where does it go? It's a damn tangle I have to straighten out for my shows! Love it.
