Well, I'm a little miffed at Johnson Controls at the moment.
In September, they shut down the app they put out that controls my Lux smart thermostat for the house.
I've only had the thing for three years. Yes, it's one of the older Geo models, but, damn... Not really thrilled about needing to replace the thermostat I can no longer use (except in standalone mode.)...
Guess I'm in the market for another thermostat I can program for different temps at different times of day.
This kind of planned obsolescence pisses me off. I spent good money for this thing, and without the app it's essentially a dumb thermostat that I can't program changes in temp/time anymore.
I might just esp32 myself a thermostat because I can... Because why not? At least a local website running on the esp will give me the ability to program as many time/temp changes as I like....
Fiddlesticks and fuckery.
EDIT TO ADD: Bought a Nest thermostat (it was on sale) and installed it this morning. I'll worry about the custom solution later. Mostly because I'm dealing with family shit right now - my brother had a stroke last night, and we're waiting to see if he's going to end up even more braindead than he already was.

I was going to recommend getting a esp32 and programming it yourself, that way it would never become obsolete. When I did this I setup a service on my server to allow me to connect to it via tor, to eliminate the concerns about encryption and dns. Of course there is also the IOT, I have not checked it out in years though as I typically take the tor route. For a thermostat this is a bit overkill as we do not frequently need to check or change our temperature at home when we are out. Though I like playing around with this kind of stuff.
