Decorating the tree was quite the project. After we got all the lights on the tree the middle section went dark. The new lights didn't match the old lights so we started over. Six hours and five workers later we finished. Our very ancient tree top disintegrated. We decided going without a top was good enough.
Making the gingerbread houses is rescheduled for the weekend.
We did have great fun.
It was clear that the kids needed this continuity of family tradition and the joy of Christmas together another year. We don't give gifts so making something beautiful to ooh and awe over is our gift to each other.

It's a very beautiful tree! What does Summer think about that big, bright thing in her house?

She doesn't mind the tree at all. She will not like the train that will be running around the bottom starting tomorrow.

When my father passed at 100 I realized he had never told me things, he showed me. How to a father. How to be a son. How to be a husband. How to be a worker. How to be a boss. How to be a friend.

It occurs to me that you are showing us how to be human. That is your invaluable gift to all of us.

It's appreciated.

The tree is like you and your family, in the best way possible.

Thank you!
The tree was a little scraggly to start with.
Our day long project was worth the effort.
It has been a tough year for the young people and they are looking for something. I'm so happy they can find some of what they are looking for at our house.

Well it all came together nicely. And that bit of a challenge along the way? Well, scout leader, that's team building.

Cookies and cupcakes are > merit badges. But you already know that.
