People who wish Trump dead overlook the fact that by law Trump's death will make JD Vance president, which will move the US government to a whole new level of dysfunction.

@bob The only good thing about that is that the man has so much less charisma than the orange one, and that might be better for the rest of us.

True. But as a cult leader, Trump has a certain influence and media power none of the others have. And as a narcissistic sociopath, he's been uniquely destructive in order to elevate himself.

Vance would be a nightmare - but likely a more traditional form of corruption and power.

isn't Trump just the puppet who distracts everyone whilst Vance executes project 2025 anyway?

@avatastic I find that very unlikely, given the excessive number of vacation days Vance has logged.
in reply to Randahl Fink

No one but Trump would command the same level of obedience Trump has gotten from Congress and the Courts.
in reply to Alley Stoughton

@fullyabstract good point. One could hope for a Republican implosion because of the lack of leadership.

I don't think we have a good idea what'd happen if Trump croaks. He's definitely the figure of a cult, transferring that won't be easy. You potentially depower kusher and the saudis, at least a little. Thiel gets lots more power, and that fucking vampire is scary.

I think the folks predicting infighting are likely right, though. And you might also depower russian influence a bit, which would be huge

Trump rules through bullying and intimidation. Nobody's scared of JD Vance.

He has the charisma of a toaster he won't be able to consolidate power nore keep the base together

Lot of interesting takes on here, but I tend to agree. A more calculated, more patient, more systematic POTUS, wielding Trump’s portrait like a fallen saint, using the abstracted leverage that the end of an era represents, while boomers are facing their decline, seems worrisome. People don’t remember how much Vance moved the needle in the debate against Walz. That might even have been the tipping point of election.

Trump has the charisma of a mob boss, which plenty of Americans apparently like. Vance’s aura is that of a glib, righteous snitch. I don’t think even the MAGA crowd likes him, let alone adores him like they do Trump. He’d get a lot more pushback from Republicans, because they know that Vance couldn’t mobilize the MAGA mob in the way that Trump can. GOP politicians might suddenly find a lost spine or two.

J. D. Vance is not something to wish for, but the world's economies would benefit from a US president that doesn't behave as chaotically as four year old child.
in reply to Randahl Fink

I said this recently, but here we go:

Once Taco Tits dies, and Just Dance Vance takes over, the whole MAGA thing dies. Vance has no charisma. He won't keep those MAGAts on side, and they'll see the problems he and Trump have caused.

Vance will likely release the Epstein Files that implicate Trump, as an attempt to remain popular, and those files will stop any other Trump (Barron) rising to power.

Moses Mike Johnson may become VP but he is universally hated, and will be too unpopular.

I will still celebrate one less fascist in the world, but I am not looking forward to the media fawning over him, calling him a great statesman and other such nonsense.

But must in that case not within a certain of time new elections take place? #TrumpIsDead
