I thought they would get rid of Trump in his first term, the problem is he's the whole cult. As my wife said, no one's going to wear diapers for JD Vance. They have no replacement anyone cares about.
I can't imagine that the many folks among the base about to lose so much can be truly happy, even if they still provide lip service.
Anecdotally, I have not seen one Trump sign of late. They used to be in people's yards, on trees, on billboards. Now, I don't see any, after seeing them for a decade.
@Kim Possible @billy joe bowers-8647 This is why Musk is convinced that he can make a success out of a 3rd party. I've heard that Dems are going to take full advantage of the rift but they're going to blow it again because of the one thing they believe in religiously: any votes that aren't cast for the GOP are votes that they're entitled to. The GOP has successfully demonized Dems to the point that it's a conservative article of faith that the worst GOP candidate is better than any Dem, so--NO, disaffected Republicans aren't going to vote for Dems no matter how entitled Dems think they are to those votes.
@claralistensprechen5th That's a good point that disaffection with Trump does not mean any kind of values change. It just means that those people want a different face on the same agenda. Even the people directly hurt by the Republican Party tend to vote for them again and again.
It's a wonder that we ever got a Black President, considering the racism, xenophobia and openness to violence among too large a segment of the electorate. It won't matter what Democrats say or do, those folks will always do one of two things: vote for the opposing candidate or just stay home.
@Kim Possible @billy joe bowers-8647 Having that Black President is exactly what riled the bigots into action, and why they still like Trump for undoing whatever Obama and his veep ever did. That plus cruelty is indeed the point.

But Trump is completely falling apart.
