That was the rule of thumb when Trump got inaugurated. It hasn't changed and even if the government shutdown persisted, wouldn't have changed even then. It's a given in all cases, and I've heard that excuse several times today. Somebody posited that re-opening government was a loss of leverage, and I still can't see how maintaining a shutdown has any sway over a party that revels in shutdowns.
Keeping the government shut down is giving the GOP all the leverage THEY need to beat you over the head with it claiming YOU are the villain...and insofar as you're aiding/abetting a GOP desired shutdown, AND whereas they're the villain for it, well, so are the Dems.
In what world does giving the GOP the shutdown they get their rocks off on "leverage"? Anyone who thinks that's what it is, is certifiably bonkers.
