Burger Chef was bought out by Hardees and in turn, Hardees was bought out by Carl Jr's...however, along these lines, I discovered that Dog & Suds remains in business, albeit in the midwest. Not sure that it's a Moxie story, being resurrected from the dead--it just downsized.

@Tom Grzybow Their overpriced burgers did 'em in. There's a Five Guys in Enid, opened not long ago, but the same could be said of Schlotzky's but it'd dead in Enid. I expect Five Guys isn't far behind. The price of beef these days is through the roof so expect more burger joints to go under, and along this line is a marketing gimmick called "smashburger". Like sliders, it's an attempt to charge you more for less meat, but I don't think that's gonna be the salvation of the industry.

There's a burger joint that has been in business since the end of WWII in #EnergyIL and its burgers contain no beef--however, instead of expanding, it guards its recipe like it was Fort Knox and won't even license people to make it. #NeslersPolarWhip owes it to humanity at this time, seems to me. I've eaten there several times and can personally attest to the fact that theirs is a very good burger. Their maintained sales over the decades will back me up on that.
