Yes, my SRAM adapter for the C128 works!
Seems I've ran out of 'HCT00s... Will have to search for one to validate the board with it.

I just released the files for my #Commodore #C128 #SRAM adapter, as it seems to work well with everything I threw at it.

Have fun with it, you can order it from PCBWay or from anywhere you like:
github.com/hkzlab/C128_310381r…

I guess this can be adapter to newer boards with 4x 4464 DRAMs. As I have a motherboard for a C128DCR around, I suspect I'll get around to that too.

Had to check this, as it's just a screengrab with no attribution, but apparently this is real, initially spotted in 2024, and not the first time people from the state cannot spell the state's name correctly: abovethelaw.com/2024/10/the-vi…

Can't even spell properly the name of their own State : LouisianaNA

Is there still a Department of Education in LouisianaNA ?

Sigh, Red States 🤢🤮

Is there an account you follow that boosts other people too much? Do you like reading their own posts, but you don't want to see their boosts?

In Mastodon you can hide an account's boosts by doing the following:

1. Go to their profile page
2. Click the ⋯ button on their profile
3. Select "Hide boosts"

You will still see their posts, it will only hide boosts. If you change your mind, go to ⋯ and select "Show boosts".

They will never know you have hidden their boosts 🙂

this is super helpful. Right now I am blocking all boosts from all accounts I’m following, thanks to @ivory but boosts are also helpful to find interesting new accounts to follow.

I prefer a formal language to describe “contracts” in the type system and static analysis.

BUT, I think it would also be funny to use embeddings to find out what a function does just reading its declaration.

For instance
void x_destroy(struct X * p)
What this functions does?

I will try do to that for fun.

Interesting to see AI fighting AI - only one losing the battle is humans. This might just be an unnecessary burden to society overall.
in reply to Ars Technica

I have conflicting feelings about this. On one side: fuck AI companies and abusive bots DDOSing random websites and git repos. On the other, there are now hundreds of thousands, if not millions of computers wasting energy for literally nothing. Some generating shit, and others eating it. A lot of expensive nothing

Someone mentioned that if you teach your kids to count motorcycles on road trips rather than VWBugs or something else, they'll be trained to notice them from a young age.

I have no kids, but I think it's brilliant advice!

You don't fight fascism because you expect to win or because it's fascism, you fight fascism because if you don't, people die. Like, I don't give a fuck about Sartre (I'm not really disagreeing with him in any case) or whether fascism is actually fascism. I care about fighting things because if we don't, people die. Call them whatever you like. Call them Freedom and Democracy™. I don't give a flying fuck. People going to die = something to fight against. That's a pretty fucking simple calculus.

New instance, new #Introduction !

My name is Jürgen, and I translate old German folk tales into English - not just tales from the Brothers Grimm, but from the hundreds of other 19th century German folklorists out there.

To date, I have translated more than 700 tales. You can learn more about my project here (and you can get a free ebook version of my first book if you subscribe to my newsletter there):

I should point out that my interest is less in traditional "fairy tales" than in local local legends. The former tend to be more universal in their narratives, while the latter are deeply embedded in local geography, history, and culture.

I've even put most of these tales on an interactive map - either the town where they come from, or the actual place where the legend supposedly took place. You can see them for yourself on this interactive map!

Not So Sensitive Content Contemplation

I am not sure why. Some users go crazy with labeling everything as Sensitive Content. I guess they do not realize if you highlight everything on every page then essentially nothing is highlighted? Well, let them be them and I will be me. From here on out if it is labeled Sensitive Content I am ignoring that post. Not because it has sensitive content, rather because I am sure it does not. I will also start ignoring users that post everything they post as sensitive content.

I know it should not bother me. It does though so I will just make it go away.

Is Concern Over Security Overrated?

The average user may believe that all the hype they read about security on the internet is overrated. To be honest some of it is and some of it is just to sell you a product you do not need.

In the case of Internet Facing Services this is not the case. If you have an internet facing service then you have to be sure your server is secure. This is why I insist on SELinux on my servers. AppArmor is easier to configure though not as configurable as SELinux for as many cases. I would also strongly suggest you never disable SELinux (or AppArmor if that is what you are using) to ease installation and implementation. It is not worth the risk. Just learn to use your Gnu/Linux Hardening system to its fullest extent. Do not disable it.

I have attached a screenshot of an ssh session to my VPS. As you can see every few seconds an attack fails. This is why the security is required.

yeah, you can customize that limit to whatever you like though ;)
in reply to Samuel Lison

@Samuel Lison

Yes, I kind of figured that though I do not see the point of running both a friendica and mastodon instance. I cannot afford another VPS and I would rather not divide up the resources further than I already have. Friendica really uses a lot of memory too.

Server Down

I am not sure how long the Server has been down today. I went to login and got a 503: Service Unavailable. I am looking into what caused the issue.

After discovering that I could not connect to my instance, though the server was still up. I did the most reasonable thing ;). I rebooted it. That seems to have fixed whatever took the service down. I am looking into what caused the issue and how to prevent it in the future.

Rogue Project Friendica Instance Terms Of Services (TOS) & Rules

I have updated the Terms Of Services and Rules of Rogue Project's Friendica Instance.

Please keep in mind , if you use this Instance, that it is your responsibility to keep up with updates. I will however post when I do make any updates. You can find the TOS & Rules on the main menu of this Instance.

ImageMagick

One of the most frequent issues with my Friendica instance is that the scripts using php-imagick are not handling exceptions. This is not a huge issue though it is an example of how a lot of the code base, in my opinion, is rushed and loosely implemented. I decided to learn more about ImageMagick in order to address some of these issues. I know it is a small issue, though we start small and work up to larger tasks right 😁.

I have used ImageMagick in the past to do some quick batch processing on files for the web. I love how it has grown in version 7. I will be testing soon. Will post any significant issues I find/ resolve.

Vivaldi

I remember a while ago installing Vivaldi and deciding that since it was just a Chromium derivative I did not need it. As I already used a self compiled Chromium. I have been test driving it again for the last week and I must admit I am impressed. It is a nice interface on top of Chromium. I do not know that I will continue to use it, though for now it meets my needs just fine.
