#WIPWednesday: I have continued to work on that reproduction lace. I think the size is right now, but I don't have a measurement of the original.
This is 90/2 linen thread, but the thread is slubby and I'm not keen on it. Would like a nicer thread and will try to find better ones at the upcoming lace retreat.
(Embroidered baby cap just for scale of cap size for reference. Not my work, donated to our lace group.)

I'm getting to help design the set for our next play the the theater, Harvey.
The play happens entirely in a Victorian mansion and a mental hospital, but there is a lot of switching back and forth between them. That's a lot of scene changes, and a lot of work for the stage crew to do quickly over and over again.
So, I'm proposing a design like this where the major pieces of the set are double sided and can be rotated in place to show either their mansion side or their loony bin side.
Fingers crossed the producer and director go for it!

I agree completely. Often times people say "It happened for a reason..." and they are right. Just not the reason they suppose. Confirmation Bias is extremely hard for us to get past even with the best of intentions.

Between 1966 and 1970, a San Francisco-area photographer captured thousands of images documenting civil rights demonstrations, protests against the Vietnam War, Grateful Dead concerts in Golden Gate Park, and so much more.
The problem, though, is that no one knows who the photographer is.

Question for @FreeCAD users:
Right now, the only way I can find to re-orient a part or draft clone is to use Compounds or the KiCadStepUp addon workbench.
Is there really not an easier way to reset the origin of a part after placement?
I am trying to create clones so that I can export with proper part orientations. Part placement is not preserved on export and this KSU addon step seems like a needlessly complex process.
I’m not trying to put work on your plate. I just need to run a tool from that bench (or replicate its functionality) before export to reset the origin of the STEP file.
I’ll try and look at your code and the workbench code and see what I can come up with.
I’m not at my workstation at the moment but I peeked at this and didn’t get too far.
I need the ResetPlacement tool from that bench (or an equivalent). github.com/easyw/kicadStepUpMo…
If I place a part clone in the correct orientation, then export using a manual export or lastSTEP, it doesn’t retain that orientation in the STEP file unless I run ResetPlacement.
Edit: deleted the last bit. I need to look at it on a real screen

Thanks for the link to the code. It seems like I might be able to implement that function call and make it a checkbox option when you choose the file naming scheme. (With a note saying it requires the StepUp workbench)
I’ll have to play with it later this week as work travel will get in the way…
For my last model I cloned all the objects fixed their orientations. Ran ResetPlacement on each, then ran LastSTEP.
It’s not the end of the world, I can spend a few minutes on it to export.
Thanks for taking a look.
ah. No. The problem I have is that if I do a placement to set the print orientation, the step export still assumes the original as modeled origin and the placement data is lost.
Using the kicad bench tool resets the local origin for the clone so that it exports with the orientation that I selected.
In some independent methodology testing, I am able to select multiple bodies and make it run the ResetPlacement function on each body. Now, I just have to migrate that into LastSTEP…
I just wanted to let you know there is some hope.
I uploaded a version that does the ResetPlacement on multiple bodies before exporting them to individual STEP files based on the naming scheme. Let me know if this does what you want.

Sweet!! I’ll have to make a few administrative edits to the code and update the README to make it official.
Glad I could help you out with this. I now see where it would be useful. Keep me posted if you run into any issues.

I like how this guide basically just states: If you want to make sure that your devices are not taken away from you, while you're being arrested at the border, do not travel to the U.S.
And that is solid advice - don't!

I really can't get over how irresponsible it is for MS to tell people to throw away or recycle perfectly working computers. There are so many machines people *could* keep using for much longer if not for Windows 11.
mastodon.social/@dosnostalgic/…
You could use ChromeOS, which I am not recommending, as they are pushing for people with older computers to migrate to ChromeOS.
You could use any of the many great GNU/Linux distros. Unless you have a really old computer, which is doubtful seeing you are presumably using MS/Windows 10 now, you do not even need to get a so called lite version.
