I see a lot of toots paying tribute to the dearly departed #TomLehrer and if it weren't for the fact that YouTube is where one finds his discography, I'd be one of them also paying tribute. He never wrote a song I didn't like although there's one I came pretty darn close to heavily disliking it: The Irish Ballad.
Tom was Weird Al before there was a Weird Al--but like Weird Al and Allan Sherman, he'd take an existing tune (so he didn't write the music) then put satiric words to it. Come to think of it, so did Peter Schickele, aka PDQ Bach. #RIP to the entire lot of 'em. ❤

This here #birb right here is an Effin' Bird Hawk Watcher who is PISSED.
At the hawk, of course, but I didn't know that until after several minutes of a #MississippiKite convention that caught my attention when I walked out the door earlier.
These Kites have 2 different calls: one is a straight 2-note exclamation point typically uttered by fledglings/juveniles, and one where the 2nd note involves vibrato, typically uttered by full grown adults. ALL members of this convention were screaming in the juvenile mode, then occasionally one would do a steep speedy dive then come up mid-tree level. Very odd if this was a sort of fledge ceremony, like graduation, for their young.
It took me til several minutes later to spy a terrified Red-Tailed #Hawk get flushed out of one tree to fly only two trees over for additional cover. Yeah, young and old were ganging up on this one hawk. Def qualifies as a Effin' Bird.

in reply to Tom Grzybow • •There was a time when I could still go to YouTube using the Brave browser to block YT-generated content but YT has gotten wise to that and has basically blocked me from using it UNLESS I drop my own blockers and that's just not going to happen. Since then, I notice that Mastodon has developed its own YT tracking cleaner, but I remain anti-YT for the principle of the thing.
