@claralistensprechen5th well, funny story. when I first arrived at college in 1991(!), I tried to get the username "griffin"--after the GRF-3N Griffin BattleMech in BattleTech, of all things. But there already was a user with that name on the campus system, so I punted and went with the fancier spelling. And then it stuck as a nickname. And then the Z started getting added when the Internet went wider and people started beating me to "gryphon" too. And here we are in 2026, somehow. Ye gods.

Well well well. You'll have to admit that the creature is quite popular.

Then again, with a surname of Griffin one can't dispute Merv's securing of the same as a trademark/logo....which he didn't have when he was mainly making records. See also "I've Got A Lovely Bunch of Coconuts"--not only a recording but also something of a music video you can find on YouTube. After Merv became the TV game show mogul, that's a creature one could see displayed after every single one of them. Perhaps an adoptive identity creature could be found (if you're not as averse to J.K. Rowling's works as most are, with good reason) by consulting "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them"

How about an Occamy?
