Extremely late night notice for Central Time US, but I just viewed a latter day "Dragnet" episode on the TV where Harry Morgan's character, Bill Gannon, provided a bit of comic relief--he presented a sandwich with a lot of ingredients in it, whereupon Friday commented that it sounded like a 7 course meal. Then I used #Google to list those ingredients to check against a list I scribbled on a scrap of paper.
And Google's #AI fucked up even that simple task. It inserted the word "mayo" when the script called for "horseradish". Gemini hasn't learned that horseradish sauce, although it contains mayo, is NOT mayo.
It's still an awesome Gannon-style Dagwood, though: corned beef, imported Swiss cheese, lettuce, russian dressing, slaw, kosher pickle, tomato, HORSERADISH, and peanut butter. I'm sure Arby's Horsey Sauce is a good substitute, but do NOT use mayo. #recipe #sandwich
Hells bells, but we've been enjoying those for the past 3 weeks and they're still coming in! If you put them in the fridge and wait 2 or so days, they get even sweeter! Fridge is required because they'd get moldy otherwise.

Public-health experts have warned for months that the COVID-19 virus isn’t gone—and, far from waning, SARS-CoV-2 has mutated yet again into a new variant. Called NB.1.8.1, it's causing a spike in infections in China.
A few cases also recently appeared in the U.S. when people arriving at airports tested positive (CDC). The World Health Organization has also designated it as a “variant under monitoring.”
Where did NB.1.8.1 come from? GISAID data: First known cases of NB.1.8.1 toward the end of April, appearing in travelers from China, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. NB.1.8.1 is China's dominant COVID-19 causing spikes in ER visits and hospitalizations.
Where is the new COVID-19 variant in the U.S.? Cases reported in CA, HI, NY. OH, RI, VA, & WA. So far, only a few cases have been detected in the U.S. so it doesn't yet register on the CDC's COVID-19 data tracking site of variants.
Will the latest COVID-19 vaccine protect me? NB.1.8.1 is still part of the Omicron family, which means that current vaccines and immunity from recent infections should provide some protection against serious disease.
Ultimately, the committee voted to recommend continuing with a JN.1 vaccine—but did not specify whether the updated shot should target LP.8.1. Sadly, HHS has limited availability to those >65, and younger must have some chronic disease. Frankly, they should allow access for everyone who wants it.
What are NB.1.8.1 symptoms? Similar to other COVID-19 strains: sore throat, fever, cough, fatigue. Other countries data, variant does not seem to cause more severe disease—but genetically, it is equipped with changes that allow it be infect cells more efficiently (more easily) among people.
How do I protect myself against the new variant? Vaccination increase chances you avoid severe disease, since the current vaccine still protects against viruses related to NB.1.8.1. Especially true for people at higher risk of severe disease: older people and those with weakened immune systems.
Getting vaccinated, however, may become harder for other groups. In a series of unusual moves, U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced CDC will no longer recommend a yearly shot for healthy children and pregnant women;
