Fankoos 🫶🏻 yeah my friends, especially him, loved Arwen so much! 💜 It will be weird to open "the bag" to get some of her ashes out to put in the heart. But it also feels like a small part of her would love to be with them. So it also feels like the right thing. Even if it sounds a bit weird... 😔

I'm glad to read you archived the source code, and from what I hear at least some of that still survives to this day. Too much other such things have probably been lost to time.
I may never own a copy of the original Secret of Monkey Island (I'm lucky to even have one with the "stump joke" still intact) but, like with Star Wars, I take some comfort in knowing that it's still out there somewhere.

This is your regular reminder that if you are developing an app that is supposed to help a vulnerable population, you need to do it WITH CONSIDERABLE INPUT FROM THE PEOPLE YOU ARE TRYING TO PROTECT.

Unfortunately, the ICEBlock app is activism theater

The whole iPhone only thing from the start was already suspicious. The dev was basically lying saying that Android could not be private no matter what and people spoke up on the posts here and elsewhere offering to help do it or even basically write the code for that themselves, but of course they were ignored or attacked.
IMO they were basically straight up lying about the way it works is never a good sign...
I'm wondering if the intent is to (somehow) profit from all this.
One could easily dismiss a lot of the criticism here because it's easier to criticize than to develop something. However, his refusal to go open source is a huge red flag indeed.
So yeah, the app is problematic, which is very unfortunate.

But we perhaps forgot something even more important:
A lot of people are authoritarian.
Authoritarians evalute the world not through facts but through loyalties and groups. I believe antivaxx to be better understood through loyalty signaling for groups than disinformation or scaremongering.
We associated too much of human behaviour to reason and logic. And neoliberalism shares part of the blame here also.
