A new psychological study published in the Journal of Personality says that people who report favorable views of President Donald Trump tend to score higher than those with other views on measures of callousness, manipulation, and other malevolent traits, and lower on empathy and compassion. The study started as a result of the 2016 election and was conducted via two large surveys of over 9,000 participants from the United States. When I bought this house, it had three refrigerators (one in the back house). All varying degrees of old, all cheap, but all working. I unplugged all but one, since it's just me and the dogs/cat. The one I was using died today. So, I plugged in the other one in the front house...also now seemingly dead. No sound and not getting cooler. So, now I've got to hope the one in the back house isn't also dead and figure out how to move it to the front. And, quickly, since all my food is thawing.
lol. The previous owner had one of these monstrosities on the fridge plug for reasons I can't fathom (the house is wired with three-prong grounded outlets everywhere). It was ancient and melted. I removed that adapter (non-trivial, as it was melted/corroded on) and the fridge fired right up. I mean, the compressor started, it didn't ignite.
@futurebird yep, the ground tab was bent away from the outlet...guaranteeing no ground contact. People don't make sense. I used to work as a sound person and DJ and I can't count the number of times I was handed an extension cord with the ground pin ripped out, "to prevent hum". (I always used my own grounded extension cords, and if I needed a ground lift for hum, I had that capability in my DI).
@futurebird my dad of grandpa taught me to do that so we had a few of these. Typically though not a screw through that loop but copper wire you then earth/ground somewhere — often by tying it to the screw holding the plastic outlet frame in if that screw connects to the metal frame of the power box the wires come through, which it did typically by the 1970s.
@Joe Cooper 🇺🇦 🍉 There is a #SolarPunk solution to dead fridges, tho. Even when dead, they are still well-insulated cabinets and can revert to being just a regular for-real ice box, when the freezer compartment is in the top. Relive the pre-refrigeration generations our country was founded on and just cram the freezer compartment with ice, and that'll keep the bottom part cold. Just make sure it's all contained so the meltwater doesn't go down there.
@claralistensprechen5th if it came to it, I also have a motorhome in the back yard with a working fridge (propane and electric), so I could save my food by transporting it to there. I am rich in refrigeration options. But, since it turned out to be just a dumb grounding adapter, everything can stay where it is and I am no longer in a panic to get things relocated.

I think it sometimes thinks the start button is being pressed. The super annoying thing about this is that this also adds +1 minute to the time if it's already running. So I've had to set a timer while it was running...
I put it on a power panel and keep it off when not in use now. Interestingly, after it sat completely disconnected for a long time I think it seems to be getting better? Lately it hasn't been doing this issue. If they have the same issue, they probably should have just done that, lol.
Actually, possibly everyone should do this anyway just so surges and etc don't mess up the microwave. (Just it has to be a panel that can handle that much wattage...)
The only reason I do not have video evidence of this is because I didn't want to risk frying my phone in the process, but I had a microwave that decided to start turning itself on whenever you opened the door. NOPE.
I have one of those, a nice big powerful old GE microwave. They're a bit infamous for running at will when plugged in and it's hard to fix, solution was a switched extension cord with the switch near the microwave. No more haunting, though houseguests take a while to get used to it, especially where you have to hit the rocker switch when done. Effectively $12 for a nuker you could do a turkey in.
Edit: to be clear, it does not run when its door is open. That would be a dealbreaker and instagone.
The ironic thing is that when we recently bought a microwave, we asked Fred* at Miracle Appliance what brand to buy to keep ourselves out of his store. He said to not buy anything but GE, and NEVER use the preset programs. So we did and we don't.
*Fred is a pan-dimensional wizard who already knows what part you need and has it on the counter when you walk in the door. The store only exists when you need parts. It's really weird.

Ah, but that's the difficulty. When I looked it up replacing the defective door latch sensor is a major disassembly job, you even have to remove the magnetron. Thus my shrug and going for the quick and dirty fix years ago.
@artemesia A pro sound guy I know told us a story about a small show he was involved with in Sydney.
Afternoon sessions would be fine. But in the night time shows,the analogue radio mikes would get bad interference randomly. Would come on for a minute or two and disappear, then back on. Tried everything to fix it. Had them stumped.
On the second week they decided to ring up and order pizza from the small shop across the street. They got caught up and were a little late picking the pizza up. Not to worry, the nice Italian man said, I will put it in our microwave for a minute and heat it up for you. I can fit the whole box in , so the pizza is always hot for my customers .Back in a minute.

I'm sorry, a microwave cannot mechanically or electrically malfunction because of lack of koshering
but if you do want to kosher a microwave, here's how to do it: ok.org/consumers/your-kosher-k… (you clean it thoroughly and then microwave a glass of water for 20 minutes or till it's empty)

I began to see them as interpretations of Venus standing in a clam shell on the water, representing love, femininity, sex, desire, beauty. @Dave_Goldsmith Thank you, but I have to push back on this because I put so much effort into making it a functional object. The interiors are lined with food safe glaze, the pitcher spout pours well without dribbling, and the handle is built to be comfortable in the hand. I can understand it being set aside for special occasions, but it was created to be used and I made it for a conference called Utilitarian Clay, after all.
Thats great that it will be used as you intended. I'm a klutz I only use plastic wear because I'm afraid I will drop and shatter anything made of glass or clay etc. But that's just me. Your art is absolutely stunning!
