I put black oil sunflower seed and water out for the birds and squirrels every day. My neighbor used to put out unsalted peanuts plus or minus hulled sunflower seed on his balcony, but recently stopped. Some pigeons took up in his roof and they cause all kinds of mayhem, so no more peanuts for now.
Which means they're all at my place. 😆 I just sent him a picture of TEN pigeons on my patio. It's getting to be Hitchcock levels of pigeons out there in the morning. Luckily I find them funny.

Yes, and aside from their amusement value one reason I put up with them is it's not their fault they're here. As I'm sure you know, humans domesticated and then abandoned the rock dove. If they're crapping everywhere in cities, it's our fault.

Rock doves, which is why pigeon nests look so ridiculous. In nature they nest on rocky ledges and only need a few sticks to stop eggs from rolling over the edge. But if you look at the kind of nests they make in cities, it's funny and then kind of sad.

That's a long history! I had no idea. I thought pigeons were their own species, and people happened to keep them as pets sometimes, kind of like parakeets.
After thousands of years living among humans, I'm not surprised at all that they adapted to our living environments, like cats and dogs. I bet the ones that survive in the city are way more adaptable in their behavior than wild rock doves. There's pretty strong selection pressure in that direction for any animal that lives around human-generated complexity and chaos. Every time there's been a mass extinction event in the past, new capabilities emerged when life finally recovered. I bet this coming age will be full of very clever and adaptable creatures, and pigeons will still be around.

Let's say it plainly: If Trump were innocent of sexual crimes, he'd want every page of the Epstein files released. Instead, he is complaining to Republicans that supporting the efforts to release Epstein's files "would be viewed as a very hostile act to the administration.” There is no way to misinterpret that--Donald Trump knows he is implicated in sexual crimes with minors.

The part about supposedly “flagging” this content is super low-effort and pointless. It merely asserts that sometime you can. “Wherever it’s enabled, you can flag content that’s harmful or problematic”
Does it name one place where “it’s enabled”? No. Does it describe even one example of what to do or how? No. I don’t believe the author has any experience doing this supposed flagging. They just assume it’s probably possible sometimes. So they generically say so, with no support.
And THIS topic is added to the social media post about the article? Ridiculous. The topic of “flagging” is a throwaway afterthought at the end of the article. No need to mention it in advertising or posting.

This made me LOL: While doing some research on the MAGA wingnut Laura Loomer (for no particular reason) I found a document indexed by Constella Intelligence that shows that in 2022 someone sent Loomer a delivery from shitexpress[.]com, a real business that will let you pick from a bunch of different kinds of animal feces to ship to someone's doorstep.
The accompanying message was curiously signed, "Sorry about your pay pal 🙁 " The sender in this case appears to have chosen to send horse shit.
Having been the recipient of one of these highly odiferous packages, you somehow immediately suspect what is inside based on the stink, heft, and squishiness of the package, even before you notice the sender is shitexpress.

Today marks 30 years since the premiere of 'Xena: Warrior Princess' back in 1995. A show that was never ashamed of its campiness, but at the same time managed to be groundbreaking on multiple levels. Setting new standards for female action heroines, featuring a main character that was messy and flawed, physically strong and athletic, who started as a villain seeking redemption.
Xena, despite its cheesiness and often ridiculous premise, succeeded in pushing the boundaries of queer representation, challenged stereotypes, defied several of the sexist tropes of '90s media, explored LGBTQIA+ themes, even themes of gender identity, and made a clear statement against the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS at the time.
It may not be a flawless masterpiece, but it's a beloved cult classic for good reason.

That's why I don't buy cameras (besides the ones that come attached to devices, which I find ways to lock down... like tape) that connect to the internet. There are plenty of cams that just record to SD cards, and I keep a USB-C SD card reader with my phone and one in the car, but usually put cards in my Linux PC.
If it's connected, it's not private. If it is, you pretty much intend to stream, which means you don't own the content.
