The best one I heard today is that the FAA should have closed airspace for ALL private flights first before any commercial flights to halt billionaires and force them to fly commercial. What the FAA is doing now is screwing over small airports that fly into hubs.
- Private pilots have equal rights to the airspace, by law. - Most private flights are conducted without air traffic assistance. Banning them saves no money or labor. - Most private flights do not affect major airports. There are tens of thousands of small airports in the US, most of which are run by small businesses that depend on private flights. - Private flights include crop-dusting, package transport, animal transport, and volunteer medical transportation flights. Why ban them? - Much of private flying is done by flying clubs, where people rent aircraft by the hour. Many flights are done for training and currency, or people trying to get more qualifications. - Remote rural areas depend on private flights because there is poor road access. Alaska has a lot of those.

What the FAA *should* do is prioritize *controlled* flight to serve commercial air transport first. That means when you file a flight plan into certain controlled (class A/B/C) airspace, you get put into different buckets depending on your type of operation. Part 121 (air transport) gets cleared first, then Part 135 (commuter flights), then Part 91 (everyone else).
At major airports with the current labor shortage, this would certainly mean zero service for anything but commercial airliners. That wouldnβt stop billionaires from flying their private jets into any number of uncontrolled airports around the area, but it would lessen the burden on ATC staff.
