United States Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered a 20% reduction in the number of four-star generals and admirals, the highest rank typically achieved in the US military.
In a memo issued on Monday, he also called for a 10% cut in general and flag officers and a 20% reduction in general officers in the National Guard.
There are only 44 four-star generals or flag officers in the US military, but Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has also ordered reductions among the senior officers below them.

I checked in on a ninety something year old friend today. She hasn't been sleeping because of the current political mess. I was worried about her. She said that tomorrow she will be giving public comment at our local Community College board meeting. They are planning to unresolve all of the previously passed resolutions supporting diversity at the College. The canceled resolutions include support for Women's History Month, campus Pride month, support for undocumented students and their commitment to DEI. I told her that I had just noticed their agenda and would be there too. Why they are complying in advance I don't understand. This is too important to quietly pass as part of their consent calendar. I care what happens at this school that I can see from my house and I plan to bring my opinion in the form of a public comment. These elected trustees should be ashamed. #Humboldt

@JamesNielsen We don't have much in the way of press here. The agenda did get a footnote on a local digital only news site. That's where I saw it first. I have been passing the word to everyone I know all afternoon. My daughter has been posting flyers she put together. I agree about consent calendar items. Hopefully one of the trustees moves to remove this resolution for discussion.

I just got home after delivering my public comment at the Community College board of Trustees meeting. Late yesterday, the college board decided to pull the offensive resolution from the agenda. At the meeting the board stated their commitment to continue operating without restrictions on what or how they would provide instruction. They also said that pulling the resolution included the commitment to never revisit the call to rescind those previous resolutions. So their previously passed resolutions in support of Pride month, Women's History month, DEI, in support of undocumented students and condemning violence against Asian students are still in effect. I was proud of my family. Three generations standing up and speaking for what we believe to be right. In this case a little bit of community organizing and information sharing made a difference on one small campus.

@955_36 I wanted to speak because the resolution shouldn't have existed on the consent calendar to begin with. It could have passed unnoticed. Both my grandson and I were quoted in that article. I was introduced to the President, when he arrived, by my friend who told him I was a past President of the League of Women Voters. He tried to discourage all of us from speaking because the resolution was no longer on the agenda. I am encouraging my grandson to consider participating in more of this type of activism as he spoke eloquently with confidence, direct and to the point.
